Daily Debate: How Long Do You Think It Will Be Before the Next Zelda Game?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has only been out for a few months, but I have noticed that there are some already anticipating the next installment in the Zelda series. I don’t find myself among that group wishing for a new game so soon, but I can’t help but wonder, how long will it be before the next Zelda game?

There’s a six year release gap between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom if we’re talking about mainline games, but in that gap we also got Skyward Sword HD in 2021 , a re-make of Link’s Awakening in 2019, and a plethora of games added to Nintendo Switch Online. If you look at what Zelda games we’ve gotten from 2017 to 2023 it seems like Nintendo is on a 2 year cycle for releasing a Zelda game. Just looking at release dates a lot I could see us getting at least a re-release of a Zelda game in the next handful of years.

The above is purely speculation though. Nintendo Switch Online has become very popular and fans have been clamoring for other old Zelda titles to make its way to NSO as ports. The longest desire of many fans though is for The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to get the Switch treatment. Looking at the release years between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom I wouldn’t be surprised if fans finally got what they were wishing for.
