In Breath of the Wild, one of Link’s main goals was to free the four Divine Beasts from the Blight Ganons. Purging the Malice from these giant war machines would help the player by blasting the final boss’s health in half. This made all but the rage-phase of the Calamity Ganon fight significantly easier, particularly with all the added Champion abilities. A few years later, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity let us experience the Beasts in their prime and decimate thousands of foes with a mix of lasers and elemental attacks. These mechanical juggernauts are left dormant by the end of Breath of the Wild, but I do not think they will remain so in the next game.

In the latest trailer for the as-of-yet unnamed Breath of the Wild sequel, we saw some footage of Link exploring floating islands high in the clouds above the kingdom. In this segment of the trailer, Link sports a simple kilt and a wilder hairstyle. This barbarian-like appearance has given rise to a theory over the past week. It is possible that the hero’s new primitive attire is due to a timeskip. After the initial gameplay segment under Hyrule Castle, Link might fall through a temporal rift 10,000 years into the past to fight the original attack of Calamity Ganon.

If this is theory turns out to be true, how do you think the origins of the Divine Beasts will feature in the game? Would you want them to return at all for the sequel? Let us know in the comments.
