Daily Debate: How Did Null Receiving the Triforce of Power in Echoes of Wisdom Change Your Understanding of Zelda Series Lore?
Posted on March 12 2025 by Nick Miller

During Echoes of Wisdom‘s finale, Null obtains the Triforce of Power before being defeated at the hands of Link and Zelda. While such a conflict isn’t anything new to the Zelda series, it is curious that Null took up the role of villain this time around, especially with the Triforce in play. Traditionally, Ganon has been the only villain to obtain the Triforce of Power. This is because after being defeated in Skyward Sword, Demise cursed the trio, ensuring that his hatred will be reborn for all eternity, locking his soul (along with Link and Zelda’s) into an enteral cycle of conflict. His soul has repeatedly manifested in Ganon. So, having Null obtain it this time around has added a new layer of depth to the series lore pertaining to who can interact with the Triforce and how it responds.
With that in mind, did Null receiving the Triforce of Power in Echoes of Wisdom change your understanding of Zelda series lore?
I know it helped me better understand concepts that were already baked into the lore. Because Ganon has been the only one shown obtaining the Triforce of Power, I had only ever related it to him. Of course Yuga was able to obtain the Triforce of Power in A Link Between Worlds but this was only after he had merged with Ganon. So, when a game mentioned the Triforce of Power, I automatically associated it with Ganon. However, Sheikah legend Ocarina of Time established that anyone who touches the Triforce with an unbalanced heart will fracture it. As such, Null or anyone else who has an unbalanced heart should fragment the Triforce and obtain the piece most suited to them.
What if the Sheikah legend was wrong though? What if Ganon, or the spirit of Demise, is the only one destined to obtain the Triforce of Power? What if Null was only able to obtain the Triforce of Power because it had absorbed Ganon when he made his echo? By that logic, couldn’t Null have also obtained the other two pieces of the Triforce since it had previously absorbed Link and Zelda as well?
In some ways, this new revelation may have raised more questions than it answers, but theorizing about lore is a part of what makes this series fun!
Now tell us your thoughts. Did Null receiving the Triforce of Power in Echoes of Wisdom change your understanding of Zelda series lore? Was Null only able to receive the Triforce of Power because it had previously absorbed Ganon? Is there some deep forgotten lore (hint, hint, like maybe The Adventure of Link‘s Prince of Hyrule) that could add a new layer of depth our understanding of the Triforce?
