Ok, let’s talk Tears of the Kingdom some more. So many of us thought going into release that the game had some amazing potential, and all of our excitement built just as surely as the saxophone in the final trailer. Now that we have had some time to play it, we all have a bit more of a feel for it: how it plays, every new ability, even some (or all) story elements. Essentially, we know what this game is about.

So, with this time under our belt and a bit more clarity, it should be asked: is it a Game of the Year contender? Reviews would suggest that this game is absolutely in the running for the title. Yet actual experience is always different. What some might think is “GotY”-worthy, others might just see as a Breath of the Wild clone.

I, personally, believe this game to be amazing in many ways, but also understand that a lot of my instantaneous love probably comes from my attachment to the series, especially Breath of the Wild. That said, I also have my qualms with the game – not mentioned, to save spoilers.

Basically, were I to answer the question, I’d probably shrug noncommittally and say, “sure, I wouldn’t disagree. It’s a great game.”

But that’s just me. Now I want to hear from you. Do you think Tears of the Kingdom is a contender for Game of the Year? Let us know in the comments below!
