Being a dedicated fan to a franchise has its gives and takes. There’s no denying the excitement I feel when a new game in the Zelda series is about to release. Seeing another entry and the possibilities it presents for expansion is sensational. On the flip side, it compels me to gain access to that new media as immediately as possible, so I can experience it and develop my thoughts. The launch date of any Zelda game is major moment for most super fans, but what about you? Do you play new Zelda games on launch day?

The first Zelda title I ever purchased at launch was Twilight Princess, along with the Nintendo Wii. Despite the advice to adjust to the motion controls with Wii Sports, I just couldn’t wait to see this latest iteration on my favorite franchise. I played exhaustively, exploring everything I could find and taking big chunks out of the game between bathroom breaks. One of my most memorable moments of playing Zelda came as I was making my way through Snowpeak Ruins in the wee hours of the morning. The music, atmosphere, and morning mist outside created an eerie moment I’ll always remember. I don’t know that I would have been compelled to be up at that crazy hour if it hadn’t been release day (or the day after, I suppose).

What about you? Do you play Zelda games at launch? What was the first game you ever bought at launch? Let us know in the comments below!
