When something has been as influential to someone as Zelda has been for me, one can’t help but celebrate their appreciation for the series every once in awhile. With the dawn of the new year approaching, now is the perfect time to chat about any annual Zelda-related traditions that we all might have.

I often replay my favorite video games, though not for reasons that some others might. For instance, I’m that weird guy who plays through the entire Mass Effect trilogy and makes the same decisions for my character from my previous five playthroughs. For me, it’s not so much about mixing things up as it is just returning to that world and the characters who inhabit it. It’s more akin to popping in a great movie, and the more linear Zelda games — my favorites, admittedly — are perfect for that.

Once a year for the past several years, I’ve made a habit of replaying my top five Zelda entries in “chronological” order. Starting off with Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time, I then replay my favorite game from each respective timeline branch: Wind Waker, either A Link to the Past or A Link Between Worlds, and Twilight Princess.

What about you, though? How do you celebrate your appreciation for the series each year, if at all? Do you have a full-blown marathon and play through the entire series, or just your favorite entry? Perhaps your tradition doesn’t involve replaying any of the series proper — maybe you go on a ZDi forum-posting spree? Perhaps you hold a Super Smash Bros. tournament with your buddies and only play as Zelda characters? Whatever they may be, let us know in the comments below!
