Throughout the course of the entire Zelda franchise, a few things have remained consistent despite all the growth and evolution the series has been through. Of these few things, one is the weaponry, which despite arms and equipment changing and adapting with new titles, still always feels grounded in this sort of high fantasy type setting.

Link’s iconic sword and shield combo as he makes a mad dash towards a shambling Moblin with a club, or a Darknut with a far larger, and more imposing sword, helps define the series standard for combat. Of course, should you find yourself in a situation where your enemy is rather far away, and you don’t want to venture closer because you’re scared (or lazy), the Zelda series has the answer! The solution is the Bow, an equally iconic way to tell your worst enemies that you hate them from a distance.

However, one question that boggles many of us is: With the constant change and development that these games go through, will firearms ever make a genuine appearance in the Zelda series?

Several other high fantasy-style games have found fun or creative ways to introduce modernized type weaponry, including guns, to their arsenal (Final Fantasy being a good example). So would this be a possibility in the future of Zelda as well? And if so, how would that affect puzzles or boss encounters? How would the game mechanics have to change to accommodate these elements? Personally as torn on the subject as I am, I do look forward to the day Link unsheathes the Master Glock and his Hylian Riot Shield.

What do you guys think? Do firearms have a place in the Zelda series? Let us know down in the comments below!
