While The Depths was a relatively underwhelming part of Tears of the Kingdom for me, the area’s role in the final section of Tears of the Kingdom‘s main quest was very satisfying. In order to confront Ganondorf and save Hyrule, Link must delve deep into The Depths to reach Gloom’s Lair. From there, Link and the sages engage in a thrilling battle against a series of enemy hordes before confronting Ganondorf. Overall, the difficulty of the battles against the horde, Ganondorf/The Demon King, and the Demonic Dragon will largely be determined by how much of the game world the player has explored, how many shrines the player has completed, and how much the player has upgraded their gear.

With this in mind, did you end up entering the final area or battle of Tears of the Kingdom underpowered, overpowered, or in relative balance?

Overall, I think this is one of the trickiest aspects of playing open world games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. A player who has explored the game world for seventy-five to one hundred hours has likely completely a large amount of shrines and upgraded Link’s gear, health, and weapons several times. By upgrading Link’s health and gear, there is the potential for the final battle to become less challenging. My own battle against Ganondorf/The Demon King was suitably challenging, but I only enhanced my gear one time, and I only completed about 35 shrines. I feel like my focus on the main quest and core storyline was not the norm in how most players engaged with Tears of the Kingdom. Particularly for the completionists among players, it feels like it was easy to go into the final fight overpowered or overprepared.
