The Game Awards are finally over, and the results are settling in. Among the winners were games like Cuphead for Art Direction and Nier: Automata for Best Soundtrack. The big award of the night, as always, though, was Game of the Year. Among the nominees were Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Persona 5, and Horizon Zero Dawn. All of these games were great, and in the end, Breath of the Wild won. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. I personally loved Persona 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn and thought they were quite strong contenders, if not a little stronger. The story and gameplay were solid in both games, making them prime candidates to take home the gold. Zelda Dungeon‘s talked about how Breath of the Wild‘s story was, well, lacking. While the gameplay was fantastic, the story felt empty and even the DLC did not help strengthen the story.

But that is just my opinion; what’s yours? Did Zelda deserve Game of the Year or should it have gone to another game?
