About an hour ago, the Tonight Show gave us our first glimpse at Breath of the Wild running on Nintendo Switch. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly suggest you watch it right here. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé took out some Bokoblins with a boulder-induced explosion. The show’s host, Jimmy Fallon, was given the Switch to hold and let us see the game being played on the console’s handheld display. This is our first look at someone playing Breath of the Wild on the Switch, as the footage for the system’s reveal video was added in after filming. Being the first time we’ve seen confirmed Switch gameplay of the new Zelda game, it’s time to take another good look at the footage and see how it compares to the Wii U visuals. Here’s about two minutes of Wii U gameplay for reference.

Many fans, including myself, have pointed out the lack of a frame rate drop during the explosion which took out several Bokoblins. If this were the Wii U version, a frame rate drop would have been likely. I would say this is a solid improvement to the definitive version of Breath of the Wild. Are you satisfied with how the game looks? Perhaps the textures could use a little polishing, such as the roof edges on the building Link is standing on at the start of the gameplay. The boulder seemed a little too jagged, but that could just be me. All in all I believe the game looks amazing, and my excitement level is definitely increasing. Let us know what you think of Breath of the Wild‘s Switch visuals in the comments below.
