As a a long-time Zelda fanatic, I’ve grown used to Zelda games coming and going with new characters, new terrain, and a new Link and Zelda to get to know and love (apart from a few exceptions). Most Zelda titles are standalones, but the rare sequels usually place Link in a whole new world with new baddies to best and no sign of Princess Zelda anywhere (like in Majoras Mask or Link’s Awakening).

That’s why Tears of the Kingdom is such an anticipated special case for the series! We are returning to a world we have already grown to know and love for the past 6 years. We also get to continue the story for beloved characters whom I am not quite ready to say goodbye to. I know that some fans have been speculating that returning to Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule might make for a bland been-there-done-that adventure, but I disagree! I think it’s so exciting to return to this version of Hyrule that was obliterated by Calamity Ganon and see all the secrets it was hiding in the first game, along with a much expanded story featuring “Ganoncorpse.”

Zelda titles never disapppoint, so with this one being one of the first direct sequels that takes place in a world we have already explored, I am absolutely stoked to play this masterpiece of a game.

What are your thoughts on returning to Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule in this new Zelda title? Let me know in the comments!
