Daily Debate: Are There Any Great Tabletop Games That Remind You of the Zelda Series?
Posted on October 08 2020 by Rod Lloyd
In the before times, my friends and I made it a point to meet up regularly to play some tabletop games. Cooperative games, competitive games, and role playing games were all on the table (pun intended) in those days. But with the crazy times in which we all now live, we’ve had to forgo our regularly scheduled gaming time for quite a few months. We still try to play a few games digitally now and again, but we’re all looking forward to the day when we’ll be able to sit across a table again and get some gaming in.
In preparation for that day, I’ve been searching for tabletop titles that would remind my friends and I, a group of Zelda fans, of our favorite Zelda games. I’ve asked myself: Are there any fantasy-based tabletop games that carry that Legend of Zelda energy, so to speak?
Of course, there is the tried-and-true Dungeons & Dragons series; the D&D system is definitely versatile enough to allow players to enter Hyrule with as much authenticity a Dungeon Master can muster. Another game that has come to mind is Shadows Over Camelot, a cooperative title inspired by Arthurian myths and the knights of the round table. The Legend of Zelda is, to an extent, inspired by King Arthur stories, so one could imagine Link and the knights of Hyrule fighting off foreign armies, slaying dragons, and searching for mystical artifacts. And, of course, there have also been a few fan-made tabletop games directly inspired by Zelda, like It’s Dangerous to Go Alone and Reclaim the Wild.
My search has really ended there. Are there any great tabletop games that remind you of The Legend of Zelda? Are there any tabletop games that you would recommend to a Zelda fan? Share your suggestions in the comments below! Who knows; maybe I’ll convince my friends to give them a try!
