In popular music, the first 30 seconds of a song is said to be the most important. It’s during this period the listener decides whether they want to stick with the song any further. While this isn’t completely identical in video games (we usually already have an idea of what we’re getting ourselves into when starting a game), the title screen themes are still an important part of our initial impressions of a game.

When it comes to Zelda title themes, we have quite the selection. The Title themes from the 2D games are usually upbeat and bright. They’re also where we get the series’ Main Theme melody from. The 3D titles, on the other hand, tend to go for moodier, calmer themes, that are usually more appropriate for the image the game is going for. And then, of course, we have titles such as Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild, which, while they do have a “Main Theme”, don’t have a track that plays during the game’s opening.

Personally, I prefer the themes from the 2D games, especially A Link to the Past. While I do love The Wind Waker‘s opening theme, I’m pretty indifferent to Twilight Princess (and don’t even get me started on Ocarina of Time). Even at 18 seconds long, A Link to the Past‘s Title Theme is just so iconic, and so many people associate the melody with the Zelda series.

What about you? What’s your favourite Title Theme? Do you prefer the 2D or 3D Titles? Or maybe you prefer the silence of Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild? Let us know in the comments below!
