There are a lot of great fanfics out there and thousands of Zelda related fan comics. What we often don’t find however is an honest to goodness semi-serious pitch by a known and successful Comic Artist. Aaron Diaz, artist and author behind Dresdan Codak, has put together a pitch for a new Zelda title called The Legend of Zelda: Clockwork Empire. Notably, it stars Zelda saving Link.

Admittedly, it’s inspired by the call to arms from Anita Sarkeesian in dealing with Tropes vs Women in Videogames. While that may lead some people to turn away over the feminist movement, it doesn’t change the fact this is a really neat concept that Nintendo could explore, even if the character art may not fit exactly into the Zelda norm. Read on to enjoy a massive breakdown of the story and characters, accompanied with fantastic art.

I have to say, this is really kick ass concept, and is definitely something I would buy day one. Such a unique spin that still totally works, and best of all… Magic is back! Here are some additional story details:

Clockwork Empire is set 2,000 years after Twilight Princess, and is not a reboot, but simply another iteration in the Zelda franchise. It just so happens that in this case, Zelda is the protagonist. I’m a very big Zelda fan, and worked hard to draw from key elements in the continuity and mythos.
This concept work is meant to show that Zelda as a game protagonist can be both compelling and true to the franchise, while bringing new and dynamic game elements that go farther than being a simple gender swap.
