The Legend of Zelda is one of the oldest video game series in existence. With more than three decades under his belt, Link sets out to save the world from evil time and time again. These three decades have seen a fairly large amount of entries, each spanning a unique story and a spectacular gameplay.

After these three decades, it’s only fair to want to look back at what the Zelda series has accomplished. This is what today’s video, made by YouTuber beatdownboogie, is all about.

The video starts all the way back in 1986, when The Legend of Zelda, the first Zelda game on the NES/Famicom was released. Zelda was the first game to feature a file saving system and marked the beginning of a brand new adventure, which was based off of Shigeru Miyamoto’s childhood.

After that, the series shifted between home consoles and handheld, and the series evolved with each entry. With 20 main entries spanning over three decades, the Zelda series still holds its reputation as one of the most popular video game series ever made.

And it’s not just the main entries that gained fame, as Zelda also inspired manga adaptations for almost every game, spinoff titles like Hyrule Waririors, and even a 13-episode-long cartoon series back in 1989. All this shows just how influential the Zelda series is and how deep its fandom goes.
