One of the things Nintendo is known for is innovation. Take, for example, the Wii, which was the first console to popularize motion controls in gaming. Also consider the Switch, which is the only home-console-handheld hybrid of its kind. So, it is only natural for a gaming company that innovates its consoles to bring innovations to its games as well. The Legend of Zelda, for one, changed the way we play games in a couple of ways, as shown in a video made by NowThis Nerd on YouTube.

To celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary in North America, Andrew from NowThis Nerd explains three ways The Legend of Zelda for the NES has affected future games, even those not necessarily made by Nintendo, such as The Witcher, Grand Theft Auto, and Skyrim. These games, without the innovation of The Legend of Zelda, would surely have been completely different than what they are today.

Sure, every Zelda game has brought new ideas and mechanics to the series, but, as Andrew argues, only one game innovated and affected the gaming industry as a whole, and that is The Legend of Zelda for the NES.
