Danny from Danny’s Disk Club recently released his debut video that tackled the element of climbing within various video games. He clearly states that climbing is a major part of Breath of the Wild, and then goes back through the history of the climbing mechanic.
Danny ends his explanation of climbing with what Breath of the Wild does right with the mechanic, and how Nintendo made climbing a fun aspect of the world of Hyrule. Interestingly, Danny notes that Breath of the Wild‘s focus is on giving the player little two minute tasks to complete while also allowing them to travel quickly from the point that they successfully climbed to, which can be seen as rewarding.
