_Merry_Christmas__by_Annausagi Welcome to the very last Christmas editorial! Well for this year at least. So, last week I kept you all in suspense about what this week’s editorial is going to be about, so if you haven’t already read the title, we’ll be sharing some Christmas memories involving Zelda, from both me, and the rest of the staff! Hit the jump to read more!

I’ll start. Many Christmases ago (2006), Twilight Princess had just been released, and over my winter break I rented it over and over. I spent every spare second that I had playing. I had never felt such a feeling of wonder as I did that winter. So my break went on, and my parents told me that today was the day that we needed to take Twilight Princess back to the rental store, for the final time. I was crushed, I had sunk many, many hours into that game (even though I only had gotten to Goron Mines, I stunk). So as soon as we got back from the Movie Gallery, I grabbed a pencil and found the Christmas list that my parents had only gotten from me a couple of days ago. I wrote in big letters #1 The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. In my family, when you put “#1” on something on a list (Birthday lists, Christmas lists, etc.) it means that you want that thing more than anything else on that list, and I did. So on Christmas morning, I woke up early, and waited for eight ‘o clock to come, so I could wake up my parents. So I sat there watching the clock. After what felt like days of waiting, it was time. I burst into my parent’s bedroom yelling, “MERRY CHRISTMAS! Wake up! Wake up!” So after much grumbling from my dad, we went to open presents. I had my eye on one present, one that looked like it could be a game case. So I opened several other presents, not fully appreciating them, because I had my eye on that one present (I know, I know, I was a rude little kid). It finally came time to open that present. I carefully tore off the wrapping paper, revealing…… a book. I was about to cry, and I just said, “Thanks Mom and Dad!” But they said, “Wait, why don’t you read the first page or two of your new book?” So I went to open the book, and inside was, you guessed it, ,Twilight Princess! I was so happy that I squealed in joy, and gave my parents hugs. I spent the rest of the day playing, with my parents sitting on the couch with me.

So that was my favorite Zelda Christmas memory! Now for some of the other Staff!

My favorite Zelda Christmas memory was the Christmas of 2007: the best Christmas I’ve ever had. Why? Because it was the Christmas that had introduced me to The Legend of Zelda! My favorite gift from that year was a copy of Phantom Hourglass, which I wasted no time in plugging into my Nintendo DS lite and starting my first ever adventure in the Zelda universe. I was immediately captured by the unique art style, controls, gameplay, story, and the spirit of adventure! It was a 40 degree day (in Celsius), so it was too hot to do anything else, and I ended up just playing it for the whole morning, eating jelly beans, and lounging in the air-conditioned living room.

Two years later, I got Spirit Tracks for Christmas, and I tried to replicate the moment from 2007. While it certainly made another cherished memory (playing it for the whole morning, eating Christmas cake with thick white icing, and lounging in the air-conditioned living room on a 40 degree day), it didn’t compare to that summer from two years ago. Have a very merry Christmas, Zelda Dungeoners!

I remember back in 2011 when Skyward Sword came out, I had an awesome Christmas. I got two games, Skyward Sword, and Super Mario 3D Land. I didn’t get it at release like I would’ve wanted, but when I did finally get it, I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I spent all of not just Christmas, but all of winter break playing the game. I remember spending half an hour during the Wing Ceremony, just flying in circles listening to the music. Though not my favorite game, Skyward Sword did leave a lasting mark on me and my perception of Zelda games to come.

I haven’t always been a Zelda coolector, but I have been a Zelda fan for a long time. Back when Skyward Sword hit shelves I was the first person in line at the midnight release to get my Special Edition copy of the game that came with the gold Wii remote. I, however, forgot to order a special Collector’s Edition of the Prima Guide for Skyward Sword. I was becoming a hardcore collector over the days and I was regretting not buying the guide. I called every store, but none of them had any more copies of the guide. So I decided finally that it wasn’t worth it, that I would have to settle for less. So when Christmas came around, I wasn’t expecting anything grand. I opened my presents with my family and recieved the usual, socks, books, and what not. But after all the presents were open, my mom went upstairs and came back with a gift and she placed it under the tree. It was for Ty. I quickly opened the gift and found, to my amazment, a copy of the Prima Collector’s Edition Guide. I believe I cried for a moment as I sat there in awe. I eventually got my thoughts back and asked her where she found a copy, that I couldn’t find one. She told me that my little sister had pre-ordered it for me and had gotten it under my nose, and kept it secret until Christmas Day. I was able to add this to my collection and this was by far the best Zelda gift I had ever received.

Brian

A couple years back, when my brother had first moved out of the house, he decided to get Christmas presents independent of my parents. So Christmas comes around, and that morning I opened up a brand new copy of Spirit Tracks sitting under the tree. I was genuinely excited to play it because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love trains? So later that day I went to my brother’s place, where he was happy to finally have gotten everybody Christmas presents with no help, and what’s sitting there with the name “Brian” Sharpie-d on the wrapping paper? Well of course it was a second copy of Spirit Tracks, along with a book which my mother had also gotten me that very Christmas! We all learned a pretty important lesson that Christmas, but I was still happy as could be playing Zelda in my room while it was cold outside!

So that’s it for this year! What’s your favorite Zelda Christmas memory? Let us know in the comments!
