Check Out This Video Defense of Breath of the Wild’s Music

The subject of Breath of the Wild‘s soundtrack is one that garners a fair amount of controversy. Many fans have stated their disappointment in it, surfacing any number of criticisms. However, there are some who would vouch in favor of the soundtrack being shed in a positive light.
In a recent video, Zelda theorist NintendoBlackCrisis brings a long and detailed defense to the game’s score. Providing thought-provoking examples of how the soundtrack works through its accuracy to the world and ability to strike a vast plethora of emotions, the narrator gives a convincing case for the beauty in the score’s “emptiness”. Furthermore, among other examples from the soundtrack, the narrator plays an adventurous overworld track and compares it to the stillness of Breath of the Wild‘s in an attempt to show the viewer why a bombastic field theme would not work in this game.
The narrator feels that the minimalist scoring present throughout much of the overworld increases the impact moments, a key component as to why the soundtrack’s design works so well. The narrator highlights the various themes that play in different regions as the player approaches a shrine, as well as the comforting sound of a nearby stable to the ears of one who has become lost in the wilderness. Lastly, they list off a number of tracks they claim will “stick as an iconic part of Zelda“, using the Divine Beast battle themes as examples.
