It’s no small secret that the community around the Legend of Zelda franchise is filled with incredibly talented and creative individuals. Sometimes, they’re artists or musicians who amaze us with their talents. Other times, it’s people who know their favorite games so well they can play them with their eyes closed and set world records. Once in a while though, we get genuinely good storytellers with access to the perfect locations, quality actors, and a camera. That’s when we end up with short films and live-action movies that bring Hyrule into our world.

Lake Steel recently uploaded the first episode of what looks to be a promising and fun live-action series over on YouTube. The video follows Link on his quest to find the Great Fairy of Courage in the Lost Woods at the behest of Princess Zelda. While traveling, he encounters a woman, Fae, who seems lost and afraid. Eventually, the duo begins traveling together before they split up when trouble arises, and she is captured by a band of baddies. Our hero, clad in his green, sets out to save his traveling companion and winds up in a showdown that only Link could fight his way out of. The episode ends with a pretty great scene and certainly leaves the viewers wanting more.

The video is filled with some great shots of the beautiful forest, charming and nostalgic visuals familiar to anybody who’s played a Zelda game, and a great soundtrack to boot. Anybody who has worked on a big project knows the time and effort a production like this takes, and it pays off. The effort and detail that went into this piece really shows and helps create an enjoyable adventure.

To me, one of the best parts was when the Skull Kid and Deku Scrub ambush Link. The moment is so tense and creepy, to suddenly be thrown off by the flute playing menace and his Scrub friend was great. The Deku Scrub reminded me of the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi and that’s something that made me smile. I also really appreciated the armor Link strapped on in the final moments. It looked great and got me excited to hopefully see more.

What do you think of the first episode in this live-action Zelda series? Are you going to keep your eyes peeled for further episodes? Were there any moments that really stood out for you? Let us know in the comments below or chat about it over in our Discord!
