Through all of the iterations of Link and Zelda, we’ve only had a few instances in which they share a more friendly and personal bond. There is the version from Skyward Sword of course, where it can be argued that they’re more than friends, but there is also the version in Breath of the Wild. In this latest pairing of the two, we have only a few snippets of their lives, but it’s apparent that they came to respect and enjoy one another’s company.

Now, I don’t want to go burying the lede of this story. In fact, there are two parts to this story almost, and each is just as awesome as the other. One part is that in a recent video uploaded to YouTube, user HXX (AKA Jordan LeBlanc) put his animating talents on display to bring a really fun Zelda animation to life. The other part is that the short was part of a course-long animation project for his sophomore university class, resulting in an A.

The video introduces Link, wearing his sequel to Breath of the Wild Champion’s Tunic gear, meandering through the halls of a library when he spots the Traveler’s Shield on the wall. He apparently gets it in his head to borrow the shield for… reasons. Apparently, Princess Zelda, also sporting her Breath of the Wild sequel looks, had the same idea. After a sneaky play at Rock, Paper, Scissors, Link makes off with the shield and Zelda gives chase. What happens from there can only be described as a fun chase scene culminating in a rather amusing manner.

I love how clearly the characters are on display throughout the video. The way in which they interact is exactly how I always envision the duo would have acted in a less demanding life. Had Calamity Ganon not arisen, or Zelda’s sealing power just manifested as she expected it to, we could have had Link and Zelda chasing one another around Hyrule High and getting scolded by librarian Impa.

While I love this video, I do really think the best part is that it was done as a part of a school project. In his second year at university, this is really promising and exciting stuff. It looks nice, it’s highly entertaining, and it received a top grade. Good job!
