One legend influences another.
In this video exposé, Youtuber Beyond Ghibli examines the various ways in which Studio Ghibli has influenced The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The video explains that there are a variety of similarities between a number of Studio Ghibli projects and Nintendo’s latest masterpiece, including art style, themes, and even music.
What I found most interesting in the video are the story and thematic similarities between the Ghibli titles and Breath of the Wild. The apocalyptic setting of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind has similarities with the damaged world that Link awakes in. Thematically, the amorphous blight and contamination of Calamity Gannon is similar to the evil that infects Ashitaka early in Princess Mononoke.
Please take a look at the excellent video, which covers the influences of Studio Ghilbi in much more detail. And please let us know what you think of the video and Ghibli’s influence in the comments below!
