Just when you think the speedrunning community has slowed down… Not content with the huge barrier skip found in The Wind Waker, or the multiple new exploits from the Skyward Sword community, the Breath of the Wild speedrunning base have discovered a new glitch which allows them to jump almost infinitely. You can see the glitch in the video below.

Dubbed “moonjumping”, the glitch, found by runner Mr. Melessist (and showcased above by @HyruleDojo) allows runners to jump seemingly endlessly. The setup is fairly complicated, involving two other glitches known as Hold Smuggling (a glitch which, among other effects, allows you to hold items anywhere in the game world) and Walk on Horse (a glitch which, as you might have guessed, allows you to stand on your horse).

Despite what you might think, this might not actually be that useful in most speedruns, due to the state Link is in during the glitch. When moonjumping, he’s in a state known as “Grounded State”. While in this state, other glitches such as Stasis Launches and Bullet Time Bounces don’t seem to work (or at least they haven’t been found to work yet). The only proven use it has so far is in “Individual Level” runs, which are isolated timed runs of Shrines and Dungeons.

As with everything in the speedrunning community, new setups and glitches are being discovered faster than you can hydrate Ganondorf, so keep your eyes on the Zelda Runners articles for the latest updates!

What do you think of this glitch? What do you think the next big Zelda Speedrunning breakthrough will be? (At this point you could say just about anything and I wouldn’t be surprised) Let us know in the comments!
