Link’s Awakening has an incredible soundtrack. I would even go so far as to say it’s probably my favorite soundtrack of the entire franchise. A bold statement to be sure, but there are too many examples that I can put forward that bolster my claim. Whether it be the intrepid “Tal Tal Heights”, the whimsical “Animal Village”, or the crown jewel “Ballad of the Wind Fish”, there’s no shortage of variety to be had with Link’s adventure to rouse the Wind Fish from his slumber.

John Oeth has taken one of my favorite tracks, “Link is Awake”, and has given it a simple, albeit poignant classical guitar arrangement. Playing the moment you leave Marin and Tarin’s house in Mabe Village, this track is meant to give you a sense of comfort as you explore your unfamiliar surroundings. John’s take on the track is infused with calming undertones and nostalgia, his talent with a guitar clearly evident as he expertly conveys the feel of the original Game Boy composition. Link is a long way from Hyrule after all, and it’s best to have a bit of comfort before being thrust into yet another adventure in a strange new land.

If you like what you’ve heard, be sure to give the rest of John’s channel a look, and check out his Patreon.
