Four years after its release, Breath of the Wild continues to be a stellar game. Around the world, the Zelda series’ 2017 installation remains high in the opinions of gamers for how it reinvented prior Zelda traditions and yet still maintained a thrilling sense of adventure. It was, and continues to be, a tremendous accomplishment for Nintendo, and it has even garnered tons of excitement for its announced sequel. But all this hasn’t stopped some fans from trying to take the game to the next level graphically.

YouTube channel Digital Dreams recently showcased the already cutting-edge graphics of Breath of the Wild sharpened to 8K, with a ray traced global illumination (RTGI) shader applied for even higher graphical quality. Breath of the Wild is shown running impressively smooth in 8K, and the game’s lighting appears more photorealistic with the applied shader. The gameplay footage also demonstrates the REVO Reshade Redux mod, which adds some color correction to the game, eliminates “harsh contrast and saturation,” and provides a few other graphical touches. All in all, it truly is a beautiful sight for fans of Breath of the Wild.

All this was accomplished on the Wii U version of the game via the use of the CEMU emulator. Though the process is not easily replicated, Digital Dreams has provided some resources for those who want their game looking like the one in the video above. You can download the REVO Reshade Redux mod here, and you can learn how to setup Breath of the Wild and CEMU with Reshade and ray tracing here.
