Using suspend points in Switch Online arguably taints a playthrough of any classic Zelda game. The game was likely not intended to be played with such a mechanic and it takes the playthrough even further from emulating the authentic experience of playing the game upon its release. But is this such a bad thing? Or is it an improvement that the developers would have built into the games had technological limitations not prevented it?  I recently played Oracle of Seasons…

With the return of Gleeoks in Tears of the Kingdom, one of the oldest Legend of Zelda enemies finally got a facelift from pixels to full 3D (a two-headed, submerged Gleeok did make a short appearance as a boss in Phantom Hourglass, but you only see the heads). It was exciting to see one of the original villains make a reappearance and go from a small sprite in The Legend of Zelda and Oracle of Seasons to a two-story-tall terror…

Another Nintendo Direct has come and gone without much news about our favorite franchise. Every time, I get an inkling of hope that we will hear news about two of the most iconic and largest adventures in the series, The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess; but alas, I’m disappointed each time. It’s really been convenient to have ports of older Zelda games like Majora’s Mask, Oracle of Seasons, and even The Minish Cap on the Switch. So why not these…

A world of water with islands scattered across it, hosting only a handful of inhabitants settled amongst them, without a country to unite them. When our hero awakes, it’s not into a medieval land filled with castles, dark forests, and sprawling green fields to ride horses across, but a tropical ocean as far as the eye can see. Link isn’t thrust into an adventure to save a princess from the get-go; there’s only a simple request to meet his grandmother…

Five months after being announced in February’s Nintendo Direct, the simultaneously released Game Boy Color Zelda adventures are now live on Nintendo Switch Online. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, developed by Flagship, a subsidiary of Capcom, were originally released in 2001. Each their own separate adventure, players received codes during gameplay and a password after completion to link the two games for a variety of secrets throughout and for a…

Welcome to another installment of Inspired By Zelda, our editorial series that looks at games new and old that take inspiration from and create a foundation based on The Legend of Zelda. Our aim is to spotlight the games that Zelda fans might enjoy adding to their catalog. Up today is Beyond the Mountains from developer Eric and publisher VerdLife Games, available on Steam. Beyond the Mountains is a top-down adventure RPG that is filled to the brim with charm reminiscent…

One of the most exciting moments at the February 2023 Nintendo Direct was the announcement of Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games for the Nintendo Switch’s online service. The Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are (or will be) available with the regular online subscription while the Game Boy Advance games are available with the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. It is very exciting that a major portion of Nintendo Switch owners will have access…

I recently replayed Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons for the first time in years. One of the most unique aspects of these games I’ve always noticed is the rings, which don’t appear in any other titles in the series. There’s a total of 64 rings to collect between the two games, some of which can only be obtained by beating both games back-to-back, and sharing them between save files using the Linked Game feature. There’s an incredibly wide…

Wow. Wowowow. THAT, my friends, was a Nintendo Direct for the ages. Despite Nintendo arguably holding back yet again on Tears of the Kingdom, there was no doubt that the trailer we saw for the game was by far the meatiest one yet. Add in the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance NSO news, with The Minish Cap and Link’s Awakening DX being playable RIGHT NOW with the Oracles not far behind it, and there was more Zelda news in…

Over last few years, Nintendo has hosted a Nintendo Direct each February to announce and go over the games that will be releasing in the first half of the year. 2023 is no different, and today’s Direct was packed full of content and games to come. So, what did you think of today’s Nintendo Direct? After a long wait and slow news cycle, we finally got some more content for Tears of the Kingdom! Honestly, this was the highlight of…
