The end of this year is rapidly approaching, which means that it’s time for my favorite annual tradition here at Zelda Dungeon: Best. Zelda. Ever! While no new Zelda games were released this year, we did have some DLC come out for Cadence of Hyrule and we’re looking forward to the upcoming release of a new Hyrule Warriors game: Age of Calamity! The prequel to Breath of the Wild just missed the cut for this year’s list, so you’ll have…

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will soon be upon us, and the newest trailer leaves Zelda fans with many questions. Some of the biggest questions that fans have stem from the mysterious figure featured at the end of the newest trailer. We only see this cloaked person for a few seconds, but the fan base was alive with theories after the trailer dropped. Some have begun to ask if the figure was Vaati or Yuga. Vaati has been a recurring…

Get ready to fight evil this week, as the gang strap in and discuss every single final boss fight with the series’ big bad himself: Ganon! From Beast Ganon to Ganondorf to Calamity Ganon, we dissect what we liked from each fight, what maybe didn’t work as well, and which one was the most disappointing of the bunch. With eight different fights to choose from, there’s lots of meat on the bone! Making her first ever appearance on the podcast…

Zelda subtitles tend to reference either a key item or character from their game. These make each game easily identifiable, and give potential players a sense of what to expect from them narratively. Some of the best subtitles aren’t just straightforward, but are a nod to a secret revealed late in the game’s story. Others, however, are either entirely nondescript, a bad choice from a marketing perspective, or otherwise misleading. In my opinion the worst subtitles are The Adventure of…

Metal Gear!? To hear those words uttered in a Zelda game would give me no end of joy, but then, I’m a big fan of stealthy games and Tactical Espionage Action. But after kicking around the idea, I realized that Zelda has a plethora of stealthy sections spread out in the series for us to dissect and discuss. Come hang with us as we talk Gerudo Valley, Silent Realms, the Yiga Clan Hideout, the Forsaken Fortress, and more as we…

What is the greatest dungeon in the Zelda series? A simple question on the surface, but one with so many layers that it makes finding an answer almost impossible. How does one define ‘great’? Is it the dungeon layout? Perhaps the ways the dungeon item is implemented into the puzzles? Or is it the bombastic boss fight at the end? Surely the music and overall aesthetic play a part? And to be honest – what does being a dungeon in…

Two of the more unique entries in the Zelda franchise are the multiplayer experiments Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures. Utilizing the titular weapon, Link was able to split himself into four separate versions of himself, each adorned in a different color. These Links were then able to be controlled by four separate players for co-operative questing with a splash of competitive spirit for good measure. The closest we’ve gotten to recapturing that formula was the 2015 3DS title Tri Force Heroes, but…

In the few times that the Zelda series has truly dabbled in creating heavy multiplayer campaigns like Four Swords Adventures and TriForce Heroes, I’ve really enjoyed them. Nintendo’s emphasis on creating fun couch co-op experiences for fans really shines in these games. TriForce Heroes was released somewhat late in the lifespan of the 3DS, and I think it would be a great idea if Nintendo invested in creating a new multiplayer-based Zelda game for the Switch sooner rather than later….

There are many recurring races in the Zelda series: the often elegant and magical Zora, the proud and stubborn Gorons, and the childlike and innocent Koroks. Of course, then there are some one-offs, like the Minish or the Mogma. However, there’s another race that’s very prevalent in few games, but oddly absent in others. I’m talking about the Deku Scrubs. First appearing in Ocarina of Time and then playing a major role in Majora’s Mask, the Deku Scrubs have seldom…

Grab your Game Boy Advances (and bring your link cables too) as we do a deep dive this week into the single most underappreciated Zelda game – Four Swords Adventures! I just finished playing a solo run of this game for the first time and have lots of thoughts – how is it solo compared to multiplayer? Is it a pain to set up? How does one player control four Link’s? And then we shift over to the story, which…
