It’s no secret that the cost of video games are rising. With the most recent console generation ushering in the era of $70 USD games — up from the nearly 20-year industry standard of $60 USD — Nintendo made a bold move with the release of the Switch 2 by selling Mario Kart World for $80 USD. However, this doesn’t seem to be the base price for Switch 2 games. Donkey Kong: Bananza is priced at $70 USD, while Switch 2 Editions…

First referred to in a press conference under the code name “NX,” the console that succeeded the Wii U needed to innovate, to reinvent, and to match the modern and busy lives of consumers. The name of the console was revealed in 2016 to be the Nintendo Switch, which released globally on March 3rd, 2017. Thus ensued a long, impressive line-up of innovation for nearly every Nintendo franchise. Although not every expectation has been met over the past eight years,…

In Skyward Sword, you meet Gorko, who somehow runs around the Surface’s many regions with his massive map to discover the secrets of ancient times. He is one of many examples of NPCs in the Zelda series whose primary occupation or obsession is archaeology, and characters started embracing this more prominently in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It became so prevalent that I started questioning the variety of Hyrule’s NPCs for awhile. Are there too many of them…

The Switch 2 is only a week old and The Legend of Zelda already has a strong presence on the new console. With Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, a game-changing new update to Echoes of Wisdom, The Wind Waker‘s day-one release on the Nintendo Classics library, and with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment releasing later this year, it seems that Zelda fans will have plenty to play for the foreseeable future. That being said, we have yet to hear anything about…

A lot of the games in the Zelda series have truly memorable openings. Whether it’s Link having a nightmare of what’s to come when encountering Ganondorf or venturing out into a massive thunderstorm as our hero’s uncle wakes him up to tell him that Princess Zelda is in danger. Nearly every single title in the franchise has openings that define what’s to be expected in the rest of the game from a narrative perspective. More recent titles in the series like…

Echoes of Wisdom received a patch Tuesday to improve one of its most controversial elements: the echoes menu. Players can now mark echoes as “favorites,” then later filter to see only those echoes. This update coincides with tomorrow’s launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, but the current Switch can also enjoy this new feature. Players who have learned at least 30 echoes will see a new message when launching the game, telling them that they can “mark [their] favorite echoes…

With the Switch 2’s release date nearly upon us, it is time to bid farewell to the Nintendo Switch. Since 2017, the Switch has delighted fans with some incredibly unique first-party titles, ample third-party support, and enough indie games to give anyone countless hours of entertainment. The Switch is also a Zelda powerhouse! Almost every Zelda game from its nearly four decade run is playable on the Switch, and the Switch 2 only promises to expand that library with the announcement that…

Puzzles have been a critical part of Zelda games for the past forty years. One of the biggest innovations in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom was providing the players with the full collection of puzzle solving tools in the tutorial areas. While many of the puzzles in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom do have an obvious or popular solution, the player is free to manipulate different physics systems or use a variety of…

Echoes of Wisdom was a lifelong dream come true for me. I have always loved Princess Zelda ever since I was first introduced to her as a child. I was so proud that after so many years, Nintendo gave us a game with her as the focus and main playable protagonist. To me, this game was a solid entry, and it stayed true to the classic puzzle-solving and dungeon-crawling formula of old school Zelda, while also allowing open world exploration…

When it comes to games everyone has a style of game that they often prefer – realistic graphics, sprite style, or somewhere in between. The Legend of Zelda has seen a lot of stylistic changes over the years, so, does art style affect whether or not you will play a Zelda game or not? As an artists I value artistic choices in whether or not I will check a game out, but in general, for series of games that I…
