The Legend of Zelda fans were feasting in 2011. With the series celebrating its 25th anniversary that year, Nintendo pulled out all the stops to make sure every corner of the fanbase was well fed on Zelda goodness. Ocarina of Time 3D — a remake long desired by fans — released that June, Skyward Sword — the first home console Zelda game in five years — released that November, Hyrule Historia — and the official Zelda timeline with it —…

We celebrate many anniversaries here at Zelda Dungeon. When you cover a longstanding game series like The Legend of Zelda, with over 20 games under its belt, it makes sense that there will always be a special date to mark the calendar by and always a prestigious title to look back on. For example, we honored Ocarina of Time with a retrospective staff feature on its 25th anniversary last November, we remembered A Link Between Worlds with a special editorial on its tenth anniversary…

Are you a recent Zelda fan who arrived during the Switch generation and are interested in playing through the full catalog? Are you a veteran Zelda fan who is tired of dusting off that old system to play your favorite Zelda game one more time? Regardless of when you found The Legend of Zelda, I think we can all see the value in having the complete saga on Switch so that it is both accessible and convenient for recent and…

Music is an essential aspect of video games. Much like a movie’s soundtrack, good video game music enhances the player experience. It lets us know if a dilapidated building is supposed to be sad or spooky.  The Legend of Zelda series is certainly no exception. There’s everything from sweeping ballads to quiet, contemplative pieces that provide just the right amount of atmosphere. What sets the Zelda series apart is that Link often plays an instrument that serves some kind of purpose…

It’s here! It’s finally here! With another calendar year quickly coming to a close, it is time once again for us to present Zelda Dungeon’s proudest tradition: Best Zelda Ever! At the end of every year, the amazing team here at ZD comes together to rank every single Zelda title from worst to best. The task is never easy, but this year’s ranking proved particularly challenging due to some major shakeups. Not only did we, as we always do, see new…

With Halloween right around the corner, Zelda fans will no doubt have a beautiful bounty of expertly crafted Zelda character cosplays to marvel at. I myself have put together some not-so-expertly crafted Zelda costumes to wear for Halloween over the years. But for the busy and craft-impaired, buying a Zelda costume is a much easier option. The only problem is, while Nintendo may license the most famous Zelda characters’ likeness for third party costume companies to recreate, more obscure character…

While it can be argued that The Legend of Zelda‘s formula for its final boss battles is, well, formulaic, there are many differences spread out through the 35 years of games that create an opportunity for comparisons. Earlier this year, I wrote a debate on where Tears of the Kingdom’s final battle ranked, and it sparked a good refresher on a debate we have with every new game. However, I think it’s also important to have some constructive criticism of our favorite…

Nintendo announced late Tuesday evening that online services for both the 3DS and Wii U will be discontinued in April 2024 (with a specific time and date to be announced later). According to the announcement, “online play and other functionality that uses online communication,” which includes “online co-operative play, internet rankings, and data distribution,” will end for software on both systems next year. The discontinuation will apply to all members of the 3DS and Wii U families of systems, including…

Get your headphones in, because this week, we’re taking a musical journey throughout the history of the Zelda series to rank and discuss every games main theme! 2022 didn’t give us much of anything new Zelda-wise. Despite the many rumors that circulated, we didn’t receive any new remasters and the biggest announcement was the Tears of the Kingdom title, and also the news that it is being delayed until 2023, when it was originally slated for 2022. However, 2023 could be the year we’ve been waiting for. With this new major title releasing in May, perhaps this is year where our beloved franchise will be revitalized and…
