Breath of the Wild’s Music Goes Old School in This Vintage Jazz Medley
Posted on March 21 2019 by Rod Lloyd
Zelda Dungeon has seen a lot of discussion about Breath of the Wild‘s soundtrack this week. Our resident music scholar Matt Pederberg offered his analysis of the game’s main theme, we covered a video defense of the game’s minimalist score, and Breath‘s Hyrule Castle theme earned a spot among the Elite Eight in our Musical March Madness tournament. With all this renewed interest in the music of Breath of the Wild, it seemed appropriate to highlight a jazzy fan composition featuring a few of the title’s greatest hits.
Musician Raymusique re-imagines Breath of the Wild‘s main theme and Vah Rutah theme in this excellent fan cover. Translating the songs into a “vintage jazz” style, complete with the hiss of a vinyl record, this medley is quite an interesting take on two of Breath‘s most orchestral tracks. To me, the composition sounds a bit like a score from a 60’s spy caper, with plenty of horn and flute sounds to heighten the cool factor. This cover is definitely getting added to my driving playlist.
