With the introduction of the first DLC pack to Breath of the Wild, 9 new pieces of armor were added to the game, all hidden around Hyrule. As soon as you can leave the Great Plateau, you will receive many side-quests which reward you with exclusive pieces of armor, inspired by previous entries in the Legend of Zelda series.

This guide will show you how to obtain each piece of armor in The Master Trials portion of the DLC. For armor introduced in the second wave of DLC, The Champions’ Ballad, follow this link.

NOTE: You can click each on location to bring up the relative chest on our Interactive Map, which may help you further to find the pieces of armor you are missing.

Phantom Helmet

Location: Coliseum Ruins

Potential Threats: Lynel – wields a Flameblade and Elemental Arrows

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower, carry Ancient Arrows

This piece of armor can be found at the northwest section of the base of the Coliseum Ruins. The main threat here is the Lynel which roams the base – its difficulty will increase the more you progress in the game, so be prepared. If you struggle fighting Lynels, you can use an Ancient Arrow to take this one out instantly; though it will not drop anything on death. After dealing with the Lynel, head over to the chest’s location on your map. As mentioned, the chest is at the base of the Coliseum, so when in the general area, it is highly recommended that you use the Magnesis Rune to help you spot where the chest is. It hides behind a pillar against the wall, so it can be tricky to spot.

Though difficult, it is possible to retrieve this helmet without dealing with the Lynel. The best way to go about this is to paraglide in from the top of the Coliseum, down to the area where the chest is located. As you are about to land at the base, get behind a nearby pillar so that the Lynel doesn’t spot you. Then, use Magnesis to locate where the chest is, and head over there as sneakily as possible. When you are close enough to the chest, use Magnesis to pull it out of the ground, and open it up for your prize. Now you can simply warp away, leaving the Lynel in shock.

Phantom Armor

Location: Sacred Ground Ruins

Potential Threats: Guardian Stalker ×2

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower, carry Ancient Arrows

The Phantom Armor is located in a chest in the southeast area of the Sacred Ground Ruins, in a section of water by a collapsed pillar. Take care of the nearby Guardian Stalkers; there is little cover here, so taking at least one of them out is advised. If you are skilled with the Perfect Dodge, you can perform a parry attack to reflect their lasers, but if not, feel free to use Ancient Arrows to eliminate them. Either way, use Magnesis to help you spot the chest in the ruins, and use it to pull the chest out from the water to snag the armor piece.

Phantom Greaves

Location: Hyrule Garrison Ruins

Potential Threats: Decayed Guardian ×2, Guardian Stalker ×2

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower, carry Ancient Arrows

To obtain this piece of armor, it is recommended that you warp to the Central Tower, and paraglide over to the Hyrule Garrison Ruins. You will attract the attention of nearby Guardians, but if you continue to glide straight, they shouldn’t hit you. Once you land near the ruins, find some cover and take note of the Guardians’ locations. Then, plan out your attack, either avoiding the Guardians or eliminating them using Ancient Arrows or otherwise. A minor threat in the form of a Horseback Bokoblin roams these ruins, though a single arrow used with a decent bow should take it out. Once the threats have been dealt with, head to the southeast area of the ruins and use Magnesis next to a ruined Guardian to find the chest. As usual, pull it out using the rune, and claim your reward.

Tingle’s Hood

Location: Exchange Ruins

Potential Threats: Bokoblins

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower

This piece of armor can be found at the Exchange Ruins, towards the south of Central Hyrule. The chest is situated near to the center of the ruins, among a pile of rubble. Use the Magnesis Rune to locate the chest, and pull it out of the ground using the same rune. This area is relatively quiet in terms of enemies; a lone Guardian Stalker lies south of the Central Tower, though it shouldn’t interfere. Watch out for Bokoblins though; a group make their home by the Kaam Ya’tak Shrine.

Tingle’s Shirt

Location: Castle Town Prison

Potential Threats: Guardian Stalker, Guardian Skywatcher ×2, Stone Talus (Rare)

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower, carry Ancient Arrows

This is one of the more difficult pieces of DLC armor to retrieve, as it is heavily guarded, as it is very close to Hyrule Castle. The easiest way to get this chest is to approach it from the south, taking on the Guardian Stalker on its own to begin with. As with other Guardians, take this one out as you see fit, and try not to attract the attention of the Guardian Skywatcher here, though you shouldn’t cross paths if you stick to the main road. After the Guardian Stalker has been eliminated, you can use the Magnesis Rune to locate the chest here, pulling it out of the ground to obtain Tingle’s Shirt.

If both Guardians are focusing on you at the same time, you can try an alternative approach, though this does involve dealing with a Stone Talus. First, get on top of central plateau here, avoiding the Skywatcher. Here you will find a Stone Talus, which you should be able to take out with ease at this stage, using bombs to knock it down, then using a powerful weapon on its ore deposit. Now, you can focus on the Skywatcher undisturbed. Take it out using whatever means necessary, then look towards the Guardian Stalker below, taking it out too. Now you can grab the chest undisturbed, using the same Magnesis Rune.

Tingle’s Tights

Location: Mabe Village Ruins

Potential Threats: Guardian Stalker ×2

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower, carry Ancient Arrows

This piece of armor can be found under the remains of a Guardian towards the south of the Mabe Village Ruins. 2 Guardian Stalkers make their nest nearby, so approach the ruins carefully, and use Ancient Arrows if necessary to take them out. The chest can be found in a small puddle beneath the Guardian remains, so use Cryonis to move the Guardian elsewhere, giving you easy access to the hidden chest. Use the ever-faithful Magnesis Rune to pull the chest out of the ground, and open it to get Tingle’s Tights.

Midna’s Helmet

Location: Sage Temple Ruins

Potential Threats: Lizalfos

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower

Midna’s Helmet can be found in a chest by some rubble in the east of the Sage Temple Ruins. Using Magnesis, you can look out for a Rusty Broadsword and Shield, as seen in the image. These may help you find the chest, which is usually difficult to spot. Use the rune to pull it out of the ground to snag the headwear. Some potential threats in the form of Lizalfos can be found in this general area, though they shouldn’t be a bother.

Majora’s Mask

Location: Kolomo Garrison Ruins

Potential Threats: None

Advice: Unlock the Central Tower

Only meters from the Great Plateau will you find the Kolomo Garrison Ruins, the location of Majora’s Mask. On the south side of the outside of the ruined building, you will find a buried chest containing the mask. Use the Magnesis Rune to pull it out of the earth, and open it up to get the armor piece. There are typically no enemies in this area, though you may run in to Keese during the nighttime.

Korok Mask

Location: Lost Woods

Potential Threats: Navigating the Lost Woods

Advice: Unlock the Woodland Tower

This piece of armor is very well hidden, as it is situated off the beaten track within the southeast portion of the Lost Woods. Firstly, it is highly recommended that you mark the chest’s location on your map beforehand, as it is very easy to get lost here. To find this chest, head to the entrance of the woods. From here, follow the embers of the torches until you reach the first checkpoint (see second image). From here, head directly south into the fog. The chest can be found within the trunk of a tree, so use the Magnesis Rune to check the trunk of each tree until you find the chest. Once you find the chest, retrieve it using the same Magnesis Rune, and crank it open for the Korok Mask.
