The Champions’ Ballad, released in December of 2017, as a part of the Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass, added 9 new pieces of armor to the game, all found in chests hidden around Hyrule. The player is given clues in the form of a diary entry hidden in the Deya Village Ruins, though this guide will show you the precise locations of each piece of equipment.

This guide will show you how to obtain each piece of armor in The Champions’ Ballad portion of the DLC. For armor introduced in the first wave of DLC, The Master Trials, follow this link.

NOTE: You can click each on location to bring up the relative chest on our Interactive Map, which may help you further to find the pieces of armor you are missing.

Phantom Ganon Skull

Location: Floria Falls

Potential Threats: Octoroks

Advice: Unlock the Faron Tower

This piece of armor can be found at the base of the Corta Lake, in the Faron Region. Beware of the many Water Octoroks in the lake here; their shots have pinpoint accuracy. As you approach the location of the chest, you’ll notice that it is submerged in the lake. Ensure no Octoroks are firing at you, and use the Magnesis Rune to pull the chest up from beneath the water. You can use the Cryonis Rune in the lake to get closer to the chest if you cannot reach it from the land. Place the chest at your feet and open it to obtain the Phantom Ganon Skull.

Phantom Ganon Armor

Location: Sarjon Bridge

Potential Threats: Octoroks

Advice: Unlock the Faron Tower

The chestpiece of the Phantom Ganon set of armor can be found hidden in the water beneath the Sarjon Bridge. You can quickly reach this location by gliding from the Faron Tower in a westerly direction. Jump from the bridge on the west side to land on a pile of rubble, and use Magnesis to retrieve the chest from the rapids under the bridge. Bring it to dry land and inside you’ll find the second piece of this armor collection.

Phantom Ganon Greaves

Location: Ebara Forest

Potential Threats: Bokoblins

Advice: Unlock the Faron Tower

These greaves can be found in the Ebara Forest, to the northeast of the Floria Bridge. The chest is hidden behind a stone pillar, submerged in the dirt. As always, use the Magnesis Rune to pull it out of the ground, and open it up for the Phantom Ganon Greaves. Take care around the main road, as Bokoblins often appear here, harassing travelers, though you should be able to avoid them.

Royal Guard Cap

Location: Hyrule Castle – Sanctum

Potential Threats: Many Guardians

Advice: Be equipped for Hyrule Castle, use Revali’s Gale

To obtain this piece of armor, you must reach the Sanctum of Hyrule Castle, though you shouldn’t enter the room itself. Instead, you want to enter the room above the Sanctum. This can be done by climbing up the side of the tower, or by using Revali’s Gale, which is strongly recommended due to the large amounts of Malice here. There is an entrance from a window on the west side, though it can be difficult to find. The easiest way is to come in from above; this can be done by finding the bell tower above the Sanctum. Here you will find a well in the ground which you can glide down. Do so, and on the north side of the room you land in you will find the chest containing the cap.

Royal Guard Uniform

Location: Hyrule Castle – Dining Room

Potential Threats: Many Guardians, Lizalfos

Advice: Be equipped for Hyrule Castle

This piece of armor can be found behind a cracked wall in the passageways of Hyrule Castle. The quickest way to find this chest is to head to the Dining Hall, which can be found along the main path leading to the Sanctum. From the entrance to this long room, head straight across through a pair of ajar wooden doors. Continue straight down the hallway until you reach the end. You should find two cracked walls to bomb; the one you want is on the left side. You should find a Royal Guard Sword presented here, behind which is the chest containing your loot.

Royal Guard Boots

Location: Hyrule Castle – Guards’ Chamber

Potential Threats: Many Guardians, Moblins, Lizalfos

Advice: Be equipped for Hyrule Castle, use Revali’s Gale

The Royal Guard Boots can be found in the Guards’ Chamber of Hyrule Castle, on a wooden platform guarded by two Lizalfos. Once you make your way to the room, it is recommended that you use an arrow to shoot down the wooden platforms here: aim for the red ‘x’ on the wooden support pole, as this will cause the platform to drop. The platforms to the left and right of the chest hold explosive barrels, so dropping these on the Lizalfos will greatly help you. After taking out the Lizalfos, shoot out the platform holding the chest, or simply use Magnesis to bring it down, and open it to obtain the boots.

Ravio’s Hood

Location: Spring of Courage

Potential Threats: Lizalfos

Advice: Unlock the Faron Tower

To collect this armor piece, head over to the Spring of Courage in the Faron region. If you look at your map, you can see that there is a head, with a hand on either side. The chest lies beneath the westernmost hand, so climb below this hand to reach a flat ledge. Now, activate the Magnesis Rune to discover a chest buried in the earth here. Pull it out, and open the chest to obtain Ravio’s Hood.

Zant’s Helmet

Location: Tobio’s Hollow

Potential Threats: Hinox

Advice: Unlock the Faron Tower

Zant’s Helmet is found just north of the Hinox which lives in Tobio’s Hollow. You’ll need to cross the bog to reach the chest, which lies on a small island with two dead trees. You can easily cross the bog by using Cryonis to create pillars in the mud, so do so, and land on the island. As always, use Magnesis to retrieve the chest, which contains the Usurper King’s iconic helmet.

Island Lobster Shirt

Location: Cora Lake

Potential Threats: Octoroks, Lizalfos

Advice: Unlock the Lake Tower

This Wind Waker-inspired shirt can be found to the southwest of the Lake Tower, at the source of the river. Use Cryonis to build pillars of ice as you approach the end of the river, and use Magnesis to locate the chest at the riverbed. The chest is quite tough to reach, so you’ll need to get quite close, but it certainly is possible. Watch out for Octoroks and Lizalfos in this area, they may prove to be a nuisance.
