Unfortunately, LEGO has once again opted not to produce a fan-submitted Legend of Zelda LEGO set. This time, the rejected idea was the Breath of the Wild-inspired “Hyrule Castle 30th Anniversary” set created by LEGO Fan Designer BrickGallery. The project garnered the 10,000 supporters required to guarantee it consideration by the LEGO Review Board, but it was not approved for production. This may not be the last time this set is up for review, though, as it was submitted once prior to this review, and passed on, in 2020

The winner of this 2022 review was a Hocus Pocus-themed set by LEGO Fan Designer Amber Veyt (TheAmbrinator), which was also originally submitted in 2020. With Veyt’s design selected upon re-entry, there is certainly hope for this Breath of the Wild set yet. BrickGallery’s mockup features Hyrule Castle from Breath of the Wild, Calamity Ganon, a Flying Guardian, the Master Cycle, the paraglider, and LEGO versions of Link, Zelda, Koroks, and a Bokoblin.

LEGO Ideas rejected a different Zelda set, based on Ocarina of Time‘s Hyrule Castle, late last year.

In selecting a winner, the LEGO Review Board considers: products on shelves, new products currently in development, brand fit, expected demand, licensing possibilities, production capacity, build quality (i.e. stability, safety), feasibility, and playability. That said, it is possible the set was rejected because Nintendo has plans to make a Zelda LEGO set in the future, or the LEGO company is just looking for something different at this time. But being that an official Super Mario and even a LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog set have come to fruition, the production of more video game related sets are well within the realm of possibility.

Are you disappointed that BrickGallery’s set was not approved? Why do you think LEGO decided not to go forward with it? Let us know in the comments below.
