You’ve probably experienced the sudden heart attack of walking past a decayed Guardian in Breath of the Wild (I’m looking at you Akkala Ancient Tech Lab Guardian…). But how would you feel if you saw a decayed Guardian in real life? Well, event goers of Megacon Orlando — including Zelda Dungeon’s very own Kristen Rosario — were treated to the breathtaking work of Allison Chase Cosplay and their amazing decayed Guardian build.

I’ve personally been following this build on TikTok for weeks, and I’ve been in absolute awe of the hard work and dedication that has gone into building such an amazing cosplay. The decayed Guardian has come to life in a lengthy process, but the final product has been worth the wait for those who have been following.

The decayed Guardian features working LEDs, sound, and is able to be rotated and moved from the inside. The Guardian is quite large, but if it needed to be moved, there are wheels on the inside that can help scoot it along. There is also a little door on the inside in order for someone to get in and out as well. One of my favorite parts of Chase’s process was watching the Guardian be painted. They made weathering and aging look so simple! I’m not sure how I would feel walking past a life-sized decayed Guardian in person, but part of me would definitely feel the need to either hide or get ready to fight.

The attention to detail is amazing; it’s as if it jumped out of Breath of the Wild and into the real world. It is always so awesome to see something go from a screen, to an idea of a build, and then finally to real life. What started as a skeleton from pipes, wood, and foam has transformed into the terrifying Guardians that we all know and love.

You can watch the entire decayed Guardian build from start to finish on Chase’s TikTok, and be sure to give them a follow for more awesome content. You can also find more behind-the-scenes videos on the build on their Instagram and support the project via GoFundMe.
