The Zelda series is no stranger to spooky and borderline disturbing moments, many of which are accompanied by equally as hair-raising music. Picking which creepy tune would make the best horror movie theme is no easy task, but after careful consideration it turns out a lesser known track from the series was the perfect fit.  The best song is going to depend on which style of horror movie it’s being matched to, as there are many out there to consider,…

When it comes to classic video game ghosties, Boos and Poes are top tier. But does King Boo sit on the throne as the more iconic of the two? Or will the Poe Sisters strike a pose in the winner’s circle? The two are similar in many ways, but how do they stack up when it comes to their roles in each series, their sheer style, and their cultural impact? Series Significance Boos seem to occupy a more significant role…

Using suspend points in Switch Online arguably taints a playthrough of any classic Zelda game. The game was likely not intended to be played with such a mechanic and it takes the playthrough even further from emulating the authentic experience of playing the game upon its release. But is this such a bad thing? Or is it an improvement that the developers would have built into the games had technological limitations not prevented it?  I recently played Oracle of Seasons…

Last year, fan artist Stoic Seraphim set out on a mission to reimagine the entire Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster in a Fierce Deity skin. As of September 15th– everyone is here! Digitally drawing all 82 characters is an amazing feat and each one is impressive. This is what it would be like if the Fierce Deity mask was an item in Super Smash. Bros. Ultimate, changing up each character’s appearance like a souped-up Tanooki leaf. If only! Be sure…

Tears of the Kingdom is an enchanting entry in the Zelda series for a number of reasons, one of which is its soundtrack. Composer and visual artist Maxx Bradley (he/they), also known as Scruffy, produced an intriguing analysis of Tears of the Kingdom’s music wherein they identified unique uses of three instruments (piano, voice, and saxophone) that represent the game’s signature sound. Bradley refers to these as “musical main characters” and delves into how the distinctive use of each instrument…

While most players are unlikely to have discovered all of the hidden treasures across Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom yet, it is safe to say they are plentiful and some are a real challenge to obtain. Getting new clothes was always exciting for me in Breath of the Wild, and remains a highlight in Tears of the Kingdom. But, my celebration was tempered when I realized a lot of the clothes I was putting in…

Beedle started out a lovable, quirky salesman but has overtime become either mean-spirited or unremarkable. And frankly, in Tears of the Kingdom, he overcharges for arrows– what’s up with that!? Is it time for Nintendo to politely insist Beedle retire? Beedle was a very pleasant sight in The Wind Waker, as he you didn’t know exactly when you would see him next and his ships were the only place to get a bait bag, bait, and hyoi pears. Ever the…

Nintendo just published its financial results for the first quarter of this fiscal year, revealing that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold 18.51 million units. The financial report indicated that Tears of the Kingdom’s success “not only significantly increased software unit sales, but also drove hardware sales.” Consumers who played Breath of the Wild were the primary sales driver, but the report noted a growing percentage of purchases are being made by consumers who haven’t even…
