According to a notice posted on Japan’s

official amiibo website, the ever-growing collection of amiibo figures will only be able to store information for one game at a time…

The notice states:

“amiibo can only store data for one read/write compatible game at a time. If you wish to use the data from other read/write compatible software, please erase the data in the ‘amiibo settings’ section of the Wii U settings menu.”

To sum it up, amiibos only have enough data storage capacity to hold information for one game at a time, although they are able to be used with other games in a “read-only” format. This means that you will still be able to scan the figure in different games, but will only receive limited functionality, such as unlockable items. Take Hyrule Warriors as an example – amiibos will be able to be scanned in a read-only format to unlock randomly chosen weapons, rupees, or materials.

Nintendo will debut their amiibo figures alongside the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the 21st of November for North America.
