All Elite Wrestling Stars Celebrate Zelda’s 35th Anniversary in New Podcast

While Nintendo’s approach to The Legend of Zelda‘s 35th anniversary has, to many, seemed rather lackluster, fans far and wide have taken it upon themselves to go above and beyond in celebrating such a significant milestone for such an important video game series. All the Zelda love has even extended to big names in the entertainment business, such as those who recently appeared on the Everything But Wrestling podcast to discuss the series and its legacy.
Last week, a panel of professional wrestlers from All Elite Wrestling appeared on the second episode of the Everything But Wrestling podcast to celebrate The Legend of Zelda‘s 35th anniversary. Host and former TNT champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes was joined by former AEW Women’s champions “The Native Beast” Nyla Rose and Hikaru Shida, as the panelists shared about their favorite aspects and fondest memories of the Zelda series.
Those who follow AEW may already be familiar with these wrestlers’ love of video games and of Zelda in particular. Cody Rhodes has wrestled with the Triforce on his boots and has admitted to playing through A Link to the Past annually. Nyla Rose boasts a tattoo of the Hylian Crest on her forearm and, just last year, launched a T-shirt design inspired by Oracle of Seasons. And Hikaru Shida, an avid cosplayer, once graced the internet with her Breath of the Wild Zelda cosplay.
As both a fan of Zelda and of wrestling, it was a lot of fun for me to listen to these three gush about The Legend of Zelda for an hour. Some highlights include Rose and Shida showing off their Zelda collections, a story by Rhodes involving his father — the late, great Dusty Rhodes — walking in on him playing Skyward Sword, and some good ol’ fashioned ribbing between the hosts as they shared about the video games they haven’t had the chance to play.
