Robin-Zelda-Williams-Four-SwourdsRobin Williams was truly an amazing man. One could say he was the incarnation of laughter. But let’s not forget that Robin was also a true gamer at heart, with a deep love for the Legend of Zelda series. It’s only natural for people to want to immortalize him in our beloved franchise. Thus, a petition has been started to get Robin’s name in Zelda U in some way or another.

To know more of the details, follow the jump.

The mastermind of this petition, Nick Schaedel, laid out the goal for all to see:

“Robin was an avid player of video games, with a love for all things Nintendo, and a particular love of all things Legend of Zelda. It is well-known that he named his daughter after the series’ titular princess. Nintendo of America itself only recently hired him and his daughter to promote the franchise in a series of ads.

So, in a day where there aren’t many words, what can we do? Well, there’s a new Zelda game on the horizon. A bold reinvention, a fresh new open world adventure for Wii U. I would like to suggest that when the game is localised to English, Nintendo of America and the Treehouse name one of the characters “Robin” in his memory.

He won’t get to play it, but he’ll live on forever in a universe he always loved.”

Already above 28,000 signatures, the petition has shown no signs of slowing down. The trouble is acquiring enough to catch the attention of Nintendo of Japan. Nintendo of America is our mouthpiece, but Nintendo of Japan are stubborn folk who don’t pay attention to the outside world. However, it is not out of the realm of possibility for an American to have their name be the name of a video game character. (I.E, Mario, Kirby, and our titular princess) So if we work hard enough to get enough signatures, then a possibility is there, at least for localization.

Edit: Within the span of a day, the petition has reached 50,000 supporters! Rock on!
