Untitled The Official Nintendo Magazine has revealed the winners of their awards last year, and A Link Between Worlds has won two of them! One was for best audio, and the other for best 3DS game of the year. There may be some other categories that it deserved, but that is really up to you readers.

Check out some reasons for their choices after the jump!

3DS Game of the Year

“…maybe it’s the supreme balance of gameplay, dungeon design, eye candy and musical composition. Or the playful fan service and subtle throwbacks from a company that has proven that it understands its fans and their utmost desires perfectly. In a year in which fans have had their patience tested to extremes, Eiji Aonuma and his busy elves have restored their faith and reminded everyone that the Kyoto king still has what it takes.” – Official Nintendo Magazine

It is not at all surprising to see A Link Between Worlds in anyone’s Game of the Year spot. Between the dozens of website scores of 9/10 and higher, and the massive pile of perfect scores from fans, one cannot deny the game is easily one of the best Zelda games in years. We can only hope that Zelda Wii U will be just as awesome.

Best Audio

“This was one of the team’s few clear-cut, unanimous decisions. A Link Between Worlds’ soundtrack consistently impresses and is one of the few audio experiences that feels integral to the game. […] Tunes evolve as you progress, time signatures change to reflect playful versus epic and arrangements switch from folksy duos to hair-raising orchestral wonders.” – Official Nintendo Magazine

Not only did we get amazing, orchestral remixes of classic tunes from A Link to the Past, but A Link Between Worlds gave us some brand new music for plenty of the revamped locales from A Link to the Past‘s Hyrule. The magazine was right to mention how great a decision it was to have certain tunes “evolve” along the journey, as this keeps audio from getting stale, as well as reminding you of how much more epic your adventure is getting as you go. Plus Lorule Castle rocked everyone’s ears every time its catchy little tune changed.

Honestly, I believe Best Graphics was another spot that it deserved. The Official Nintendo Magazine chose Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for this category, but that game is not the first game I would choose for it. A Link to the Past blew me away. For a top-down game especially, the visuals on areas and bosses were awesome on their own, but the more impressive cutscenes really seemed like they were pushing the 3DS’s limits.

What do you guys think? Does A Link Between Worlds deserve both awards? Does it deserve more? Let us know in the comments!
