1up Zelda Anniversary

The folks over at 1UP have a whole bunch of Zelda goodies in celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary. Yup, that’s right, the Legend of Zelda series was born 25 years ago to this date. What started on February 21st, 1986 on the Famicom Disk System has lasted 25 years, spawning across almost a dozen game systems, with nearly 20 full-fledged titles. Even more if you include the various remakes, different versions of the various games, satellite broadcast Zelda titles, and even some 3rd party Zelda titles that shall not be named.

1UP really went all out with their features and there is so much to look at it. For now though, I’m going to focus on their retrospective of the series, or rather as they refer to it as, the Zelda Gameography. It is a Six-Page look back at every single Zelda game, giving some basic information on each title, as well as two or three paragraphs about the game. They go as far back as the original Legend of Zelda, up to Skyward Sword, and even the various spin-off titles. Here is what they had to say about Skyward Sword.

The next Legend of Zelda game is still in development, and probably won’t be released until the end of the year. What’s known so far is that Skyward Sword will require the Wii Motion Plus for swordplay that accurately mirrors the player’s thrusts and swings. Some enemies will have weak points, encouraging the player to target them for a quick victory, while others will use shields to defend themselves from the player’s strikes, bringing an element of strategy to the action.

Also, instead of an overworld and dungeons, Skyward Sword splits the adventure between a paradise in the sky and the less idyllic land of Hyrule. Link’s sword acts as a conduit between the two worlds, and can transform into a female sidekick who offers helpful suggestions when the hero isn’t sure what to do next. Hopefully those suggestions won’t include “Look!” or “Listen!”…

You can read their entire Gameography over at 1UP. However, that’s not all that there is. In their Legend of Zelda Turns 25 feature, they have listings of the top 25 coolest Zelda videos, embarrassing things about Zelda, things you didn’t know about Zelda, favorite cover songs, and much more!

It’s a bit too much to go through everything right away, so we’ll likely be featuring some of their goodies throughout the week. However, feel free to jump on in and take a look for yourself. Let us know what you think by posting in the comments below.
