The Mirror Shield is a recurring Shield in The Legend of Zelda series. Named after the highly-polished boss, the Mirror Shield is the strongest shield in games that it appears in, being able to reflect magical projectiles that other shields cannot. In the 3D games, it can reflect light off of its surface and is used to solve puzzles.
A Link to the Past
"You found the Mirror Shield! You can now reflect beams that your old shield couldn't block!"
In A Link to the Past, the Mirror Shield is the dungeon item of Turtle Rock. It replaces the Fighter's Shield (or Fire Shield) once obtained, and has the ability to block all magic-based projectiles, including ones shot by Wizzrobes, Laser Eyes, and Lynels. In the GBA remake, the Mirror Shield can be eaten by Like Likes, forcing Link to purchase a new one from a Dark World shop.
Link's Awakening
In Link's Awakening, the Mirror Shield is the dungeon item of the Eagle's Tower. It replaces the regular Shield once obtained, and can reflect fire, wind, and beam attacks. It is required to get past a flamethrower blocking the path to Turtle Rock.
Ocarina of Time
"You found the Mirror Shield! The shield's polished surface can reflect light or energy. Press [R] to use it."
In Ocarina of Time, the Mirror Shield is the dungeon item of the Spirit Temple, alongside the Silver Gauntlets. It is located in a Treasure Chest in the adult era section, where Link must defeat an Iron Knuckle to reach the ledge with the Chest. The Mirror Shield's design is drastically altered in this game; It features a diamond shape with a red border, and the surface of the shield is indented with an ornate pattern.
The Mirror Shield replaces the Hylian Shield once obtained. It destroys projectiles shot by Octoroks, Deku Scrubs, and Business Scrubs instead of reflecting them, and can somewhat reflect one of the magic attacks used by Ganondorf. The Mirror Shield's polished surface also enables it to reflect light; This is required to solve certain puzzles, by shining light onto sun emblems and walls. The Mirror Shield is also required to defeat Twinrova, as it is capable of reflecting their magic attacks.
In addition, the Mirror Shield cannot be consumed by Like Likes.
Majora's Mask
"You got a Mirror Shield! It can reflect certain types of light. Press [R] to assume a defensive position. If you press [R] while Z-Targeting, you can move while defending yourself."
In Majora's Mask, the Mirror Shield is located in a Treasure Chest Beneath the Well. The design has been altered again; It is an octagonal shield, with a brown outer layer and three gold accents on either side. The boss is grey, and features an agonized face as a decorative design.
The Mirror Shield replaces the Hero's Shield once obtained. It functions mostly identically to its appearance in Ocarina of Time, able to destroy certain projectiles instead of reflecting them; However, reflected light beams are now capable of instantly killing undead enemies, such as Floormasters and ReDeads. It is required to progress through the Ancient Castle of Ikana and solve puzzles in the Stone Tower Temple.
Oracle of Seasons & Oracle of Ages
In both Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, Link can obtain the Mirror Shield in a Linked Game, if he tells the Smith Secret to the Smithy Manager and already has the Iron Shield. It is the strongest shield in the game, capable of blocking any projectiles the Iron Shield could not. The Mirror Shield can be swallowed by a Like Like, in which case Link can purchase a new one for 80 Rupees.
The Wind Waker
"You got the Mirror Shield! Its shiny surface reflects beams of light. Hold [R] to shield and use [L-Stick] to aim its reflection."
In The Wind Waker, the Mirror Shield is the dungeon item of the Earth Temple, located in a Treasure Chest guarded by three Stalfos. The Mirror Shield returns to its old shape in this game, featuring a blue outer layer, and a grey boss with a design featuring two birds and the Triforce emblem.
The Mirror Shield replaces the Hero's Shield once obtained. It is required to solve light puzzles, by shattering stone statues and reflecting light beams off of other mirrors, and must occasionally be paired with a second light beam via Medli's Harp to solve certain puzzles. The reflected light beams now paralyze undead enemies instead of instantly killing them, and must be used to solidify Poes and turn Dark ChuChus to stone, as well as to defeat Jalhalla.
During the fight against Ganondorf, Link must use the Mirror Shield to bounce the Light Arrows that Princess Zelda fires into Ganondorf, when he begins dodging direct shots.
The Minish Cap
In The Minish Cap, the Mirror Shield is a post-game item. After Vaati is defeated, if Link has completed the Goron Quest and performed a successful Kinstone Fusion with the Goron on the far right, Biggoron will appear at the top of Veil Falls. If Link lets him eat the Small Shield, he can come back after around 20 minutes to receive the Mirror Shield. It uses the design from The Wind Waker, but the frame is a lighter shade of blue, and the design features two gold marks on the side.
The Mirror Shield will automatically reflect any projectiles it blocks.
Tears of the Kingdom
In Tears of the Kingdom, Link can create a Mirror Shield by fusing a Mirror onto a shield. It functions as the Mirror itself, being able to reflect sunlight or other sources of bright light when Link holds it out, and has no magical properties. Reflected light can be used to activate certain Switches, or can be pointed at minor enemies to stun and disarm them.

Ancient Stone Tablets
In Ancient Stone Tablets, the Mirror Shield can be found in Level 8.
SoulCalibur II
In SoulCalibur II, the Ocarina of Time Mirror Shield is one of the weapons that Link can use. It can be obtained in the Weapons Master Mode, by purchasing it from the Pollux Shop, Rigel Shop, or Aldebaran Shop for 2,200 Gold. When equipped, it is paired with the Master Sword. The shield reflects 33% of damage Link receives onto his opponent.

A mirror-like shield found in the Spirit Temple. It is an amazing work of art, and there are few who would argue that it is not one of the finest shields in Hyrule. It is said that its surface reflects not only light but hostile intent as well. |
Hyrule Warriors

In Hyrule Warriors, the Wind Waker Mirror Shield is wielded alongside the Lokomo Sword, as the Level 3 variation of the Light Sword weapon class.
The Majora's Mask Mirror Shield also appears as a type of Badge. Purchasing it will increases the warrior's defence in stages where the recommended element is 
Darkness.
Cadence of Hyrule
In Cadence of Hyrule, the Mirror Shield is the third and final shield upgrade, replacing the Tower Shield once obtained. The Mirror Shield is based on its A Link to the Past appearance, and can block stronger attacks and reflect more projectiles when compared to the Tower.
Trivia
- The Mirror Shield is likely a direct reference to the item of the same name from Kid Icarus, which Pit used to defend himself from Medusa's eye beams. Similarly, the Mirror Shield is first used to defend against Laser Eyes.
- In both series, the Mirror Shield is a reference to the Greek myth of Perseus, who used a shield to reflect Medusa's gaze.
- In Ocarina of Time, the Mirror Shield originally featured the real-life star and crescent symbol on it. In later releases and Ocarina of Time 3D, the design was altered to feature the Gerudo crest instead.
- The face seen on the Majora's Mask Mirror Shield can be seen as one of the Masks carried by the Happy Mask Salesman.
- In the Collector's Edition of Majora's Mask, the Mirror Shield causes a graphical error due to incorrect emulation; When reflecting light, a green-and-black stripe will slowly slide across the beam of light every few seconds.
- The Japanese version of Majora's Mask contains an alternate Mirror Shield in the game's programming. It has a finished select icon and resembles the revised Mirror Shield from Ocarina of Time, but will crash the game if it is used.
- In The Wind Waker, the Mirror Shield disappears from Link's back during the final cutscene, but reappears in the post-credits scene.
- In The Minish Cap, unused text implies that the Mirror Shield was originally going to be sold, alongside the Magic Boomerang and Fire Rod, for 350 Rupees.
