Link (or whatever the player decides to name their character) is a Goron.

Ocarina of Time

Link the Goron OoT.gif

In the adult timeline, Link is a Goron named after Link. He does not exist the the child timeline. His father, Darunia, named him Link because he killed King Dodongo and saved the Gorons from starvation. He believed that Link would be a good example for his child, because of his bravery and heroism.

" You must be the legendary Dodongo Buster and Hero, Link!"

— Link the Goron

He yearns to be a hero like Link, and calls himself the "Hero of the Gorons!" But he is still very young and childish, and often breaks into tears because his father is gone. When he meets Link, he gives him the Goron's Tunic, which allows him to advance to the Fire Temple.

Majora's Mask

In the child timeline, Link is a Goron who coincidentally has the same name as Link. If Link goes to the Stock Pot Inn before Link the Goron does, he can steal his hotel reservation. By telling Anju his name, he is given a Room Key to the Knife Chamber. This leads to some frustration on Link the Goron's part, who ends up sleeping outside the hotel.

" I made a reservation... The name is Link-goro!"

— Link the Goron

Link the Goron often ends his sentences with -goro, which leads to confusion.
