The Deku shield is Link's first shield in Ocarina of Time It is required in order to see "The Great Deku Tree," along with the Kokiri Sword, because Mido will not let you pass unless you are "properly equipped." It is child sized, therefore it can only be used as a child. It costs 40 rupees at the Kokiri Shop, and 50 rupees from Business Scrubs.
The red emblem on it is the symbol of the Kokiri, and it is the shape of the gold trimming on the Kokiri's Emerald.
The Deku shield is made of tough, hard, wood, and it gives great protection, unfortunately, because it is made of wood, it burns instantly when it comes in contact with fire.
If your shield burns up, you can buy a new one, or find them in treasure chests hidden throughout Hyrule. Usually around areas where you would come across fire.
