Last month, Dark Horse Comics announced The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia as a follow-up to the successful Hyrule Historia and Arts & Artifacts books. The 320-page volume will explore the items, characters, and relationships of the series, from the original Legend of Zelda to Twilight Princess HD. We were already very excited to get our hands on the encyclopedia, but Dark Horse upped the ante by announcing a special deluxe edition that recreates the original Zelda‘s golden NES cartridge design.

The deluxe edition of The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia features an NES cart-inspired cover and some additional goodies:

The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia Deluxe Edition honors the game that started it all by recreating the original gold cartridge as faithfully as possible. The cover is a gold foil paper with gloss lamination and a spot gritty varnish. The details are embossed and debossed. It has gold gilding on the top and fore-edge, with black gilding on the bottom. This book looks and feels so much like the original cartridge you might find yourself blowing into the bottom before you open it! The book comes with a black polypropylene sleeve, lined with velvet flocking, and a scale instruction booklet.”

Both the deluxe edition and standard edition of the encyclopedia promise a wealth of knowledge on the world of Zelda:

The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia is an exhaustive 320-page guide to The Legend of Zelda™ franchise from the original The Legend of Zelda to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. The guide describes enemies and items, potions and poes, an expansion of the lore touched upon in the 2013 smash-hit Hyrule Historia, concept art, screencaps, maps, main characters and how they relate, languages, and much, much more, including an exclusive interview with Series Producer, Eiji Aonuma! The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia, the last of The Goddess Collection trilogy, which includes Hyrule Historia and Art & Artifacts, is a treasure trove of explanations and information about every aspect of The Legend of Zelda universe!”

Both editions go on sale April 24, 2018. The deluxe edition retails for $79.99 USD and is available for preorder on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and additional retailers. The standard edition retails for $39.99 USD and is also available for preorder on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and additional retailers.
