YouTube member and craftsman HappyAtom has uploaded his latest video that goes over step-by-step instructions on how to recreate your own replica wooden shield from the Legend of Zelda. This is the latest video in a series, and the previous instructional videos covered making Link’s wooden sword and bomb (non-functional of course). He goes over the tools and materials you would need as well as provides the templates necessary for cutting the shape. Then he guides the viewer throughout the…

It is not very often that we see fan artwork in the form of wooden carvings, but a Canadian carver named Aleš Jánošík has posted pictures of his new six inch Link statue on his blog, along with pictures of the process he went through while making it. It is based on official Spirit Tracks artwork of Link, and was entirely carved by hand. See the finished statue and work-in-progress pictures after the jump!

I am not sure if any of you remember, but a few months ago I posted about a work-in-progress Majora’s Mask art project. The project by Mario Mayer is an incredibly realistic, wooden replica of the mask. The mask is not only carved from a single slab of wood besides the horns and eyes but is fully sized and perfectly textured. When I first featured it in July it was only in the beginning stages, without even the spikes or…

The namesake of Majora’s Mask is an artifact that is widely revered in the artistic community. Its rich colors and its eerie, intriguing design make it the perfect centerpiece for fan art. The artistic value of the mask is clearly defined by its intense appearance. It sits as a fantastic icon for one of the most dark and original games in the Zelda series, which any Zelda veteran can recognize. However, while the mask is popular among artists as a…

Being a central part of the Zelda fan community, Zelda Dungeon certainly sees a lot of different fan-made articles and pieces made in homage to the series. Although all of them are awesome in their own right, it’s rare in which one can say that a particular piece is truly unique in it’s idea and execution; bridging the gap between being an impressive piece of art and serving a function effectively at the same time. One such example is a…

A Hylian Shield of Wood

December 06 2012 by ralphpotato

Pretty much all of the replica Hylian Shields out there that you can buy are made of wood. Though the actual shield in-game is some sturdy, yet lightweight magical metal, real metal shields are expensive and heavy. However, they’re all painted to hide their organic origins and just looking at the shield, it might as well be metal. But to clefrayearth of deviantART, the the brown wood enhances the look of a replica Hylian Shield, so that’s exactly what he made. Hit…

I love fan-made crafts. Even more than that, I love fan-made crafts that you can buy. Even more than that, I love fan-made Zelda crafts that you can buy for a cheap price, but don’t look like they are cheap… Lucky for me (and plenty of you guys, I’m sure!), Etsy user Andrea from Tennessee has just the thing. Jump in to see!

Artist and Zelda fan Galewhale recently posted a few images of their latest creation, a carved replica of 8-bit Link from the original Legend of Zelda. The piece is a replica of classic Link triumphantly holding up the triforce above his head as he has been known to do whenever he receives a piece or after defeating Ganon. The piece is cut from wood and painted on both front and back perfectly capturing the look of the original hero of…

There are a lot of awesome things that people have made and done to show their love for the Legend of Zelda series. It can be an awesome piece of fanart or fanfiction or it can be even something that someone has crafted to resemble an item, person, or place that has appeared in the series. AngrySaki is one of those people. He has doors that lead to his home theater and one those doors are carved pictures of Link…

For the Legend of Zelda’s 25th anniversary, Nintendo is celebrating by interviewing different celebrities about their experiences with the series. In the past, we have posted videos with actress, Clare Grant and WWE superstar, Cody Rhodes. Today, another one has been posted and this time we have Lord of the Rings actor, Elijah Wood, talking about the first time he played a Zelda game on the NES and what he liked about it. Be sure to view the video after…
