The folks over at The Gaming Bolt have put together a listing of their Top 25 Nintendo Wii Games. The Nintendo Wii has seen 3 Zelda games of some sort. Right at launch we got the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but it wasn’t really a Wii game, as it was more of Nintendo GameCube title that found its way over to the Wii console. Early on in the consoles life cycle we got Link’s Crossbow Training, but this hardly was a true Zelda game as it was a side game meant to push sales of the Wii Zapper. Finally after a long wait, Skyward Sword released earlier this month. So where do these Zelda games fit on the Gaming Bolt’s Top 25 listing? Make the jump to check it out.

Zelda Universe-25 Years in 25 Days: 2005

ChristinaNovember 13th, 2011 by Christina

In 2005, fans were eagerly awaiting the release of Twilight Princess. At E3 the same year fans were given the opportunity to play the demo of the GameCube version. They also got to see a new trailer that showed Midna and Wolf Link of the first time. Twilight Princess would unfortunately get delayed for another year, but luckily for Australia and North America, The Minish Cap had finally been released and fans of these regions would finally get the chance to play. Yesterday’s article focused on how The Minish Cap and Four Swords Adventures completed the Four Sword trilogy. Today’s installment of Zelda Universe’s 25 Years in 25 Days again looks at The Minish Cap but in the form of a personal story of how author, Joshua, changed his views on the game from negative to positive. Read the full article at Zelda Universe and make sure to leave your comments.

Zelda Universe-25 Years in 25 Days: 2004

ChristinaNovember 12th, 2011 by Christina

Zelda Universe’s 25 Years in 25 Days continues through Zelda history with the year 2004. This was the year that Nintendo announced their newest handheld and newest console, the Nintendo DS and the Wii, at E3. Fans were also shown the first trailer of the new Zelda game that would be coming out on the GameCube. Due to the dislike of the graphics from the previous title, The Wind Waker, many fans were skeptical about this next game. That game went on to become Twilight Princess and it exceeded everyone’s expectations by showing us realistic graphics. But aside from E3, what else happened in 2004? This year also gave us two new games that would complete the Four Sword trilogy, Four Swords Adventures on the GameCube and The Minish Cap on the Game Boy Advance. Be sure to head over to Zelda Universe to read the whole article and to leave your comments.

Nintendo Power: Top 25 GameCube Games

ChristinaNovember 5th, 2011 by Christina

In Nintendo Power’s November issue, they celebrated the GameCube’s tenth anniversary by creating a list of the console’s top 25 games. All three Legend of Zelda games released for the GameCube made the list. The Wind Waker came in second, Twilight Princess came in third, and Four Swords Adventure came in twenty-second. It’s hard to believe that the Gamecube came out ten years ago, especially when many of the games on the list are still talked about and played today. It helps that the Wii provides backwards compatibility so even if fans don’t own a Gamecube, they can still play the games. Along with all the Zelda titles, many other great games made the list. Make sure to check out all 25 after the jump.

Zelda Cosplay: Queen Rutela

ChristinaOctober 11th, 2011 by Christina

Zelda fan, Hylian Jean, attended Seattle’s anime and video game convention, Sakuracon 2011, in style as she dressed as Zora Queen Rutela from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This costume is completely custom made and took about two months to complete. The head and tail are made from shaved foam and polyester batting with a mask extension made of claycrete. These, she said, took her the longest to make. I think this costume gives a realistic representation of Queen Rutela. In my opinion, Hylian Jean did an amazing job. Check out more pictures inside.

Skyward Sword: 25 Years in the Making

ChristinaOctober 4th, 2011 by Christina

With the release of Skyward Sword drawing near, many fans are discussing how other titles are connected to the story. If you have never played a Zelda game before, it’s easy to miss what makes them so great. To some people, it appears that every game is the same, trouble arises in Hyrule, Zelda gets captured, and Link must save her using the Master Sword. What they are missing is that through these similarities in plot we can see how the series has changed and evolved, and Skyward Sword is no exception. Starting off as a story filled with school drama, Skyward Sword promises to be full of new adventures, new puzzles, and tougher enemies but also to have the iconic elements that all fans look for in a Zelda game.

How do you think Skyward Sword will connect with the rest of the Zelda games in the series? We obviously know that it is a prequel to Ocarina of Time and that it will deal with forging of the Master Sword. What about its connection to later Zelda titles in the Zelda Timeline like Twilight Princess? We’ve seen that the lettering in some of the shots seems to go hand in hand with Twilight Princess, but we really don’t know much at all. Forum member An Hero of Time from over at Zelda Universe has recently created an image speculating on some things he noticed between Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess.

If you click the image to the left, or simply just read on in the story, you can view a larger version of the image. When looking at the first part of the image, I think the bird symbol appearing as the Hero’s Shade’s helmet is nothing worth noting at all. Similarly, the third part of the image comparing the Skyward Sword logo to the body doesn’t seem important to me either. The bird-like mask on the body of the Hero’s Shade does seem to be something unique. I honestly never noticed that at all before and now that I see it, it appears to have a resemblance to the hawkeye item that you get in Twilight Princess. Why would the Hero’s Shade have such a symbol on his body?

Four Swords DSi: Visions of The Future?

BarinadeJune 17th, 2011 by Barinade

IGN recently posted about The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords that was announced at E3 as a free download to the DSi. They speculated if this means that more Gameboy Advance games will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop’s Virtual Console. They specifically mentioned the possibility of A Link to the Past, which released on the GBA with updated graphics. That cartridge is where Four Swords first appeared. Read my thoughts on what this might mean after the jump!

UPDATE #3: Eiji Aonuma has given a short interview talking about the Zelda Tech Demo for the Nintendo Wii U. He basically says that this was strictly a tech demo and will have no bearing on what the next Zelda Wii U title looks or plays like. He seemed to make a reference to the SpaceWorld 2000 Zelda Demo, in which many fans thought that would be what The Wind Waker looked like. However, it turned out that The Wind Waker had a completely different art style. Putting it in simple terms… this demo means practically nothing for Zelda’s future. Come inside to see the full tech demo, as well as high quality screenshots.

Midna with Wolf LinkTwilight Princess is a game loved by many fans of the Legend of Zelda series. It features an in-depth story which dives into the lives of the characters, creating plot twists, foreshadowing, etc. Looking at it from a literature perspective, the story of Twilight Princess also presents an overarching theme that pertains to the game, other stories, and life as well. It can be interpreted many ways, but here’s how I summed it up in one statement…

“Getting to know what is not fully understood.”

This theme appears in Twilight Princess in both subtle and obvious ways. The way to most easily observe this is to look at the most important characters, Link and Midna.

Link and Midna

Link and Midna’s relationship in the game starts off extremely rough. Midna bosses Link around as though he is insignificant while Link despises everything Midna says or does. The two do not think highly of each other at all. Looking beyond the surface of this, it is clear what this represents, both for the characters and the world at large. Read more…

The folks at IGN have recently posed the question Should Skyward Sword Jump to Wii 2?. All the news and rumors on the upcoming console from Nintendo brought up plenty of past memories of Twilight Princess’ delay to the Wii. The rumors surrounding the nicknamed Project Cafe state that it is due out in the first half of 2012, shortly after the accepted release of Skyward Sword this coming fall. With the release dates so close together some fans are now questioning should Nintendo wait just a while longer so we can have Skyward Sword on a more powerful system?

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is still pegged for 2011, and a fall release would seem very likely. With Wii’s successor just around the corner, if our sources prove correct, would you want to see the game delayed to take advantage of the new system’s vast power?
