During Bethesda’s E3 conference earlier this year, we learned that special Zelda gear would be included in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for Nintendo Switch. That announcement revealed that players would be able to use compatible Zelda amiibo to unlock the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, Champion’s Tunic, and additional loot in the upcoming port. But today’s Nintendo Direct revealed a bit more about this content’s availability in Skyrim. While Zelda amiibo can be used to unlock these special items immediately in-game, the latest trailer for the Switch…

Nintendo does not often offer its classic franchises to third-party developers. Only with a precise combination of quality, consumer appeal, and creative control will Nintendo even consider handing off one of its big IP’s to an outside company. The Legend of Zelda is no exception. Only a few rare third-party studios have had their hands on Zelda, each with a varying degree of success. However with the third-party success of Hyrule Warriors, we should discuss what other developers deserve a chance to make their own Zelda game…

Zelda fans might appreciate one of the latest projects to appear on NexusMods, a fan made Crescent Island region from Oracle of Ages for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This is still in beta but fans can download part one and the Crescent Island beta from NexusMods already. A video showing off some of the landscape and mobs found within has been posted on YouTube so that you can see it for yourself before you try it out. Jump inside to…

The Elder Scrolls series is nothing short of one of the most well-known and

respected open world action role playing-games that money can buy, and if

you’re like me, you’ve probably put a few hundred hours into more than a few of

Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls installments. While the main storyline quests of many

of their titles are rather short by most standards, the amount of side content

and guild quests within the game can keep just about any gamer satisfied for

hours entering the triple digits. So what do you do when you finally

“finish” the game, it’s downloadable content, and have all the side

quests wrapped up? In most cases, gamers would call it quits and move on, but

if you’re playing on a PC then perhaps that isn’t quite the case.

Bethesda is well known to be more than accommodating to the

modding community that has found

itself well established among its series, and Skyrim has one of the largest to

boot. Like any passionate fans, we can’t let our favorite hero live only within

the constraints of his own game series; Zelda’s characters, items, locations

and even some of its villains and baddies have quickly found themselves being

pulled into the world of Tamriel thanks to the work of many very dedicated

modders and the main man himself, who goes by the name of

“JKalenad”.

Let’s me honest, Skyrim is actually one of the most modded games I think I have seen in some time. While generally every PC game features thousands of mods, Skyrim is the one game where people try to modify the game to include other worlds, characters, and all that jazz from various movies, comics, and other video games. While there are tons of Zelda related Skyrim Mods, this one actually caught my eye because it is giving attention to Oracle of Ages – which is always interesting given that the game was a 2D handheld game. Head inside.

Remember when Aonuma went all Skyrim on us? He stated rather clearly he wanted to present that Skyrim feeling to Zelda fans. However it appears we may have gotten our hopes up if this actually meant any Skyrim inspiration for the future of the series:

I just wanted to say, I’ve been a bit surprised by the focus on my comments about Skyrim. I started playing Skyrim because the name was so close to “Skyward Sword” and I wanted to see what that was about. [laughs] I didn’t pick it up because it was popular or because it was getting good reviews or anything like that. I just wanted to take a look at it. “Oh, okay, this is what this game’s about. There are some things in here that are sort of Zelda-esque and maybe some things that aren’t.”

But there was no inspiration taken from Skyrim. It didn’t impact what I was thinking about for future Zelda titles. I’m always thinking about, “Okay, next time, what are we going to do with the next one?” As a producer, whenever I can find more time to play games, I’m taking that free time to go out and play other games just to play them and see what’s out there.

As far as whether or not those are inspiring me or influencing my decisions, I guess it’s probably the same way as when I talk to young developers or new people on our staff, or when I read interviews with other people saying, “Yeah, this game was influenced by my experience playing Zelda as a kid.” Or, “Zelda really impacted my design decisions going forward.” I think the problem with that is that everything you play influences what you’re thinking, but I’m not looking at other games to try and find inspiration. If it happens, it’s a natural process.

Essentially, Skyrim has no influence on Zelda U. Welp, back to our guessing games we go!

In a recent Interview with Eurogamer, Eiji Aonuma is asked how he feels about Skyrim. Find out what he thinks after the jump!

Zelda games could use some RPG elements. Some might argue that Zelda games already have RPG elements; Skyward Sword showcased an increased focus on character customization, and Zelda games have traditionally been confused for RPGs. However, in Zelda games, the focus has always been on adventure. Proper implementation of RPG elements would supplement the adventure elements and wouldn’t undermine them. Since the developers of Zelda games have traditionally been good at incorporating new elements, this change can be significant or…

Back in late 2011, there was much debate over whether The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim should be named Game of the Year in several publications. Since then, fans that have allegiances to both of these fanbases have noted the differences and similarities between the two, many stating that they can’t be compared. While I believe that Zelda and The Elder Scrolls are from separate spheres of the gaming world, there are certainly similar…
