There are a few songs between Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask that some players don’t consider as much more than what they seem to be. The Sun’s Song is as it sounds; it changes night to day and vice versa, whereas The Song of Storms makes it rain and drains the well in Kakariko Village in order for our hero to continue on his journey to defeat Ganondorf. However, these songs and a couple others involving the spirits of…

Hello all and here again is another edition of “Zelda Artist Exposition”. I have some good news before we jump in (the news is pretty neutral actually, just depends on how you view it). I will now be writing these biweekly for Saturdays from now on. Firstly, this is good because I am one for order, reason, scheduling, and whatnot, and secondly, since these will be coming out more frequently, my list of artists to write about will be shrinking…

Playing through Ocarina of Time, I was always curious about the boss of the Shadow Temple, Bongo Bongo, and the boss of the Spirit Temple, Twinrova. My curiosity was furthered by finding online theories for Bongo Bongo, and the final words that Twinrova leave Link with after he defeats them in the Spirit Temple. Like my editorial on Bunnio, this will be more interpretive, looking at possible backgrounds and futures of the characters, rather than analysing what the characters are…

The Earth Temple is my favorite dungeon in The Wind Waker, and has been for a long time. Because the things it succeeds at are less nuanced than those of Dragon Roost Cavern, it’s the only dungeon in The Wind Waker that I loved outright, whereas it was only upon further analysis that I came to understand why I appreciated Dragon Roost Cavern. That lack of nuance combined with the fact that the Earth Temple’s problems are few — regardless…

I’ve mentioned numerous times while I’ve worked on Zelda Dungeon that I never really found the ReDeads scary in Ocarina of Time. Or… anything at all scary in Ocarina of Time, actually. Things like the ReDeads and the Shadow Temple both provided too familiar and cliched of ideas without enough suspense and danger to make me feel scared. With that said, that doesn’t mean there aren’t cool moments with these undead beasts, and it doesn’t mean that they won’t scare…

The run-up to the holiday season has definitely begun, and no doubt there are millions of people across the globe who once again have to face the yearly struggle of thinking up suitable gift ideas for those gaming fans in their lives. If you’re looking for something original, Fangamer have an excellent range of prints and posters which would make the perfect gift for any Zelda fan looking for an alternative to the standard yearly addition to their video-game back-catalogue….

Happy Halloween! It’s that time of year again; children dress as goblins, ghouls or zombies, and go door to door requesting tricks or treats (but only ever get treats); and adults throw on the nearest article of rarely-worn clothing and make up some kind of costume for the party they’ll be attending. It’s also that time of year when we all consider things that we fear. In the spirit of the season, today we’ll be talking about fear in the…

Very recently, deviantART user Le-Puppet created a piece of Zelda fanart called “As The Dead Awakes” that certainly isn’t typical. In fact, it’s far from the norm. Never has Ocarina of Time been so eerie and unnerving, as Le-Puppet and his wife breathe death into the most ghoulish of all Zelda enemies: the ReDead. Remember those times when ReDeads would jump on Link and drain his life force rapidly after freezing him right in his tracks? Well, the in-game version…
