Link’s Awakening is one of the unfortunately underplayed games in the series. In talks of which game is the greatest in the series, this Game Boy classic is mostly overshadowed by console titles. But fans should remember that it stands as a turning point in the series. As the first portable Zelda, and the first more heavily story-driven game in the series, so it acted as something for the developers to learn from. It is often seen as the series’…

The YouTube covers keep on coming, and we are glad to hear them! A while back, the talented duo of YouTube guitarists 72HoursRemaining covered a couple of lesser-appreciated songs from the series. They first released their rendition of Sword Search from Link’s Awakening, a memorable tune from the very beginning of the game. After that, they gave some love to Spirit Tracks with a cover of Anouki Village’s theme, which served as their holiday special. These two must put a…

A flickr user named Wuppes has created a number of awesome, framed Zelda dioramas out of paper. The use of layers inside the frames simulate a 3D effect, similar to what you see in the 3D Classic versions of NES games on 3DS. Wuppes has made a diorama of the Windfish Egg from Link’s Awakening, the full map from A Link to the Past, and from the same game, one of Link pulling the Master Sword. The Master Sword one…

When you purchase a new Zelda game, you can usually be guaranteed a few things. You will be flicking switches and pushing boxes, finding keys in treasure chests, and gathering items to complete dungeons and fight bosses. There will be grass to cut and pots to break. Link, a fair-haired lad clad in green, will be the main hero; Zelda a princess in distress; and some villain, 90% chance it’s Ganondorf, the one behind the trouble. We have questioned the longevity of Zelda conventions in Daily Debates before, and this time, we’re going to consider the Link / Ganondorf / Zelda triad…

Did you know the original Legend of Zelda game’s dungeon maps can be arranged to spell out the name Zelda? I didn’t until I watched this informative video Alltime Numbers released covering The Legend of Zelda in numbers. This clever video includes tidbits of information, such as how many copies the series has sold, to the phone number Americans could call back in the day if they got stuck in the first Zelda game…

Fantastic theorist and fanman HMK joins us for this week’s episode of the ZI Podcast….sort of. Adam is currently moving, Chris is in Orlando, and Jake is being an adult as we record together for the first time! HMK sits with us for the first half of this week’s episode, and before we leave, he tells about his favorite…

Despite their many differences, Zelda and Mario are probably Nintendo’s most well-known franchises. Given that one features a sword-wielding hero defending a fantasy world from the forces of evil, and the other a plumber jumping on cartoonish creatures and giant mushrooms, a serious crossover between the two isn’t likely. However, both have given one and other the occasional in-game wink or nod. In a recent video, Alex of Nintendo Life discusses some of the lesser known homages these series have paid one and other…

The Legend of Zelda arguably has some of the best music of any video game franchise and is unsurprisingly the inspiration for some really interesting covers. We’ve showcased quite a few of these in the past, from an acoustic duet of the “Outset Island Theme” from The Wind Waker to a Mariachi-style “Dark World Theme” from A Link to the Past. Now, thanks to the work of Tsuko G. on YouTube, we have something new and definitely unique: a kazoo cover of “Tal Tal Heights” from Link’s Awakening

The Legend of Zelda series is one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises. While Ocarina of Time is holding steady at #1 on the Wii U eShop, the series will not be forgotten on the 3DS where it takes 4 of the top 20 spots this week. Link’s Awakening DX, The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time 3D, and Majora’s Mask 3D all took home some of the best sales slots on the 3DS eShop. Here is the full top 20 this week…

YouTuber Tsuko G., known for his KAZOO’d series of game music covers played on kazoo, has once aain return to Zelda music, this time choosing Tal Tal Heights’ theme from Link’s Awakening. The upbeat nature of the original tune gives you the obvious adventurous feeling that the game location was meant to have, but hearing this theme, or any music really, played on kazoo just brings out something really hilarious in this classic background tune. Check out the video after…
