As Hyrule Warriors is just over the horizon and we are being teased with Zelda U, despite its 2015 release date, it’s hard for fans to remember that this year has been big for the Zelda series, even without those two titles considered. The Legend of Zelda has had quite a good 2014 with the solid release of A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as the HD remastering of Wind Waker for the Wii U. As…

Most every video game website or magazine recently chose their “Game of the Year”, and it differs from publication to publication. Amongst all the great games this year, GameSpot chose A Link Between Worlds as their game this year to much negative feedback from the community. So GameSpot made a hilarious video reply! Hit the jump to watch!

Opinions: we all have them, and, in many cases, they tell a story of absolute truth in terms of who we are and how we think. When we reach the outer stretches of the video game community and begin to discuss why we like something more than something else, we somehow feel the need to take our own private truth of an opinion and force it upon others, as if their own tastes simply don’t matter. To that end, GameSpot received a lot of interesting feedback when they announced that A Link Between Worlds is their game of the year for 2013.

Personally, I feel there is a tad bit of irony since some of the staff quotes come from Tom McShea, but the reality is that Game of the Year Awards are nothing more than an opinion fostered by a select group of individuals. Sure, often there are fan votes, but when it comes to website awards generally they are based upon the staff who actually work at those websites. There is no exact or perfect formula for choosing which game deserves the crown, but every place that does them has their own methods and works for them. This is probably why I actually liked how GameSpot chose to respond. Head inside to see their response.

GameTrailers is once again announcing the contenders for their Game of the Year awards. Though A Link Between Worlds did not take a spot among their nominees for Best RPG, GameTrailers saw fit to place it among 2013’s top ten games overall! The latest Zelda installment seems well worth the place of Game of the Year, judging by the numerous scores of 9/10 and higher in site and store reviews, including GameTrailers’ own score of 9.8/10. Recently, the popular Nintendo-related magazine Nintendo Power released their March 2012 issue. As with every March issue, this one contained the annual Nintendo Power Awards. They give awards to games on Nintendo systems corresponding to each category. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword won in the following categories: Wii Game of the Year, Best Adventure Game, and Most Infuriating (Fun Fun Island). But the big prize that this mammoth of a game took home was the Overall Game of the…

IGN today announced their full listing of winners for their 2011 end of year awards. Taking home the prize of Game of the Year is Portal 2. However, IGN also had fan polls setup where fans could vote for their own 2011 awards. Winning the People’s Choice Game of the Year is none other than Skyward Sword. So IGN thinks Portal 2 was the best game of 2011 while its fans feel Skyward Sword was the best game. The irony…

The follks at IGN have started their very own 2011 people’s choice awards. Voting has just begun for all categories and Skyward Sword is in the running for several of those categories including Game of the year. So now all you have to do is go over to their site and vote on each category. Here is what they had to say. Is Dead Space 2 a better action game than Portal 2? What’s the best shooter, Battlefield 3 or…

In the latest episode of the Bonus Round over at Game Trailers, the roundtable talk about the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and how it racks up as a Game of the Year nominee. Five games have been nominated for Game of the Year and the Bonus Round crew is going through them one by one, each day of the week. On Monday they looked at Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and yesterday they took a look at Portal 2. Today’s…

The folks over at X-Play have announced their nominees for their Best of 2011 Awards and Skyward Sword is shockingly absent from a number of their top categories. In particular, Skyward Sword was NOT nominated for the Best Gameplay Innovation, the Best Action/Adventure Game, or the Game of the Year. It’s really shocking that the game wouldn’t at least be nominated… considering it might very well win G4TV’s Videogame Deathmatch. Skyward Sword did end up getting nominated for two awards,…
